Now that our fifth year has ended, I have started a new thread
to use for the next (sixth) year, since this one has grown too long:

"SoCal LEAF & EV Gatherings ... (Year 6, starts September 2015)"
http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=20453

---------------------
Our Fifth Year of Gatherings begins here.

Our LEAF family is growing up, with some of our family evolving
with the times, and now arriving in their Rav4EV, or Tesla S, or other EV.
As with any good family, we welcome and enjoy the "growing up",
since it enriches the group, and provides us all with a better perspective
of the future.

So, the LEAF title for the Gathering evolves to "LEAF & EV"
until we think of something better.

Join us for a Saturday morning breakfast buffet at Hometown Buffet,
or some other location (see below), or for some other special event.

Nominally, we Gather from about 8:15 until about 11:00 AM, but some will arrive
at about 8:00 and some may stay later, if there is enough interest. Some come
for just a while, but have to leave early because they have a "real" life. :D

I usually try to arrive by 8:00, and am usually among the last to leave.
HTB opens for Breakfast at 8:00, and transitions to their Lunch menu at about 11:00.

Usually, we LEAF/EV-Gather on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month,
but that is often modified to fit the holidays or other events in the month.
Occasionally we have Local Clusters for special events (**) at different locations.

------------ Locations -------------

Hometown Buffet on 17th in Santa Ana:
Located just 2 blocks East of I-5 on 17th street in Santa Ana
1008 EAST 17TH STREET
SANTA ANA, CA 92701
Phone: (714) 541-3020
Their "breakfast" hours are from 8:00 until 11:00 (when "lunch" begins").
I usually plan to arrive about 8:00, and stay until at least 11:00.

Hometown Buffet in Cerritos:
About 0.2 miles east of the 605 freeway. Use the "South Street" exit about a mile south
of the 91 freeway, going east to 11471 South Street. The HTB is north of South Street,
"hidden" behind other buildings in the shopping center.

Cerritos Nissan:
18707 Studebaker Road, just west of 605. Take the first exit south of 91 (South St),
and go west one short block, turning right (north) onto Studebaker Road.
About 0.2 miles north, turn left onto Auto Square Dr. and then left again into Cerritos Nissan.

They have three L2 charging stations, but the two in front are often in use.
They have one QC machine that requires activation by an NRG/eVgo card ($$).
After hours, they typically block the entrances to the lot with "blocker" cars.
But, at least when I asked nicely, they were friendly, and helpful.
So, basically charging is only available during business hours.

------------- Misc ------------------
As always, Suggestions Welcome
Thanks everyone for your support and help.

Finally, my MapleLeaf lost her top Capacity Bar today, at 20300 miles
and 3 years and 5 months in the Orange County climate.

See you this coming Saturday in Cerritos.

Perhaps someone can suggest another good location, not in
Santa Ana and not too near that area.

Or, since the fogging is apparently being done this week, the
northeast Santa Ana area might be the safest area by the 27th?

How about Temecula? :D HTB is 1/2 mile from the Nissan DCQC, $2 an hour billed by the minute.

That is a longish trip from Orange County, for me.
However, it would be a nice change.
Have you tested the resturant?

About 40 miles from here to the QC at the Oceanside Nissan, and then
probably something like 40 or so more from there to the Temecula QC?

And, at the moment, that QC seems to be down, since about September 1st.

I have been to that HTB, it is one of the better ones, much better than the Mira Mesa HTB.

My preferred route to OC is Ortega Hwy 74. About 50 miles from I5 to Temecula. Going south on I5 it is one exit before the SJC DCQC, even the most degraded LEAF should be able to make it, from SJC to Temecula.

OK, good report on the HTB quality, thanks.

How many miles from SJC to the peak above Elsinore?
Perhaps 25 miles of mostly uphill?

Is the ChargePoint QC still out of service?
I guess that I need to do a test run, after the QC is working again.

How about setting up Temecula as the 5th Saturday of the month? That would be November 29th, Thanksgiving weekend.

JasonA you have a RAV4 you can make it easily. You can charge at my house while we are at HTB, should be done shortly after we get back from HTB.

The Hometown Buffet in Cerritos is a block North of South Street,
about 2 blocks East of freeway 605. The South Street exit off 605
is the first exit South of freeway 91, about one mile from 91.

See You There (CUT?), Gary

If one is going to the EV event on 20 September (next Saturday), at the beach
in Huntington Beach, one goes south on Beach Blvd to its end, at Pacific Coast
Highway (PCH), and probably turns right, onto PCH, to go a short distance to
turn left into the Parking Lot Entrance.

The area for the event is actually a portion of the rather large parking lot for
the users of the local beach, so there might even be beach access for us,
and bathing costumes and towels might be handy to have.

Due to reflection off the water, sunscreen protection is probably a good idea.
Snacks, beverages, cookies, etc. might also be ... yummy.

Hopefully, I will see some of you there.

I plan to come. The meeting for breakfast somewhere was going to be real early? Anyone willing to meet later, perhaps 8:45am, for breakfast, possibly at the same location as the early folks involved in the setup ?

I have pictures below of the Classic Car event held at the Trump Golf Course in Palos Verdes. Karen, the lady I am seeing, got us free tickets through her cousin. Boomer23 should appreciate some of the cars, including a very modest BMW, the Darth Vader car, some nice Woodys, a Tucker, and my favorite, which I call the "Great Gatsby" car. You will know it when you see it.

Just as we were leaving I talked to an official who was in charge of a special side area for modern cars. I mentioned that we had driven my Tesla, and said he had tried to get a Tesla but failed. I would have been glad to park in his premium location.
