I error on the side of caution for everything unless the risk is low or the consequences are ok to deal with. Though after reading this, if you think of it as an adventure then I could try such a thing. The trip would all be about charging and getting to the next watering hole than the destination event.
Duncan,

As you can tell, I am very conservative too. I want to know if it can be done (others have done it, yes, but I haven't done it), and what are the problems when doing it so when I talk to people I can give them the full picture--warts and all. I have some friends who I would never recommend an EV. Current models just wouldn't work for them and they would never consider a Tesla. If I can help others learn how to reduce range anxiety and get to where they're going and have fun along the way, then I feel I've done my job. For now my advice is, do your homework--and this forum is essential for that--and then have an adventure.

Paul - Thanks for all of your trip posts. They are very helpful.

You definitely have to think of these trips as adventures and enjoy the whole experience.

I started a new thread based on one of my experiences and saw yours and thought of the idea: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=19903" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
