Update on CalTrans District 9 (Sierra Nevada East Side) DC Fast Charger Program

Those look right.

Robber's Roost was moved to Brady's. That was always an odd site--truly in the middle of nowhere.

CP just opened one of their CEC-funded stations--a single kiosk--at Frazier Park. The Mojave and Brady's are also a CEC contract.

I did find something somewhere that the CEC contracts were "stop worked" for charge point last September for 601 and 603 due to lack of performance but maybe that's now fixed?

On the way back from Mammoth yesterday I did a loop through Division Creek rest stop north of Independence. I saw no sign of any construction yet. Nada. Nice rest stop though.

I was going to also swing through the coso rest stop and also the EA chargers there but it got dark before I got there. I'll check those out another time along with Brady's and the Airport site. I kind of wish they had chosen in Inyokern proper instead of Brady's. I get that its a perfect location geographically at the nexus of 14 and 395 but there is nothing to do there. Putting it in inyokern proper next to the TESLA charger would have been better. Food there including the burger place. Airport also is a bit far to walk. TESLA did it right.

The rest stops though, I like that idea. Walk the dog, bathroom break, et, and gets a charger between cities if you need it.

Dan, that was Recargo and not ChargePoint. I haven't heard of CP getting any stop work orders--but they don't all me if they did.

Update from Caltrans
I did not see any signs of construction myself though at division creek.

Yes, Caltrans is in the process of installing zero-emission vehicle chargers here in District 9. Construction on five, level 3, DC, fast-charging stations is currently in progress on SR 58 and U.S. Hwy 395 in Eastern Kern and Inyo counties.



The new ZEV charging station locations under construction are:

In Kern County on State Route 58
The eastbound Boron Safety Roadside Rest Area
The westbound Boron Safety Roadside Rest Area
In Inyo County on U.S. Hwy 395
Coso Junction Safety Roadside Rest Area
Division Creek Safety Roadside Rest Area
The Caltrans District 9 Office in Bishop, public parking area


Genuine Engineering, Inc., a contractor from Corona, California, was awarded the project. Construction is anticipated to be completed by June 2020.

Since Caltrans is still saying June I went ahead and added to plugshare as coming soon for the five. Credit really should go to Paul. I also reached out to Genuine Engineering to see if they would comment or provide an update. Hopefully will get a responce.

I debated adding the five to plugshare but this way more eyes can watch the sites.

"This project is currently in construction. The charging stations will be installed by others at a later date.

A bit cryptic?

I can only guess that they are installing some of the infrastructure and someone else will put in the charger, at a "later date"?

Not exactly what I was hoping to hear... Nor have I actually seen any sign the project at those sites is under construction.
