Love and Hate about our new Leaf 2018

I never, not once, ever have used ePedal on any kind of road anywhere at all.

Oh wait, it wasn’t available on my 2012 SL. Sorry, I’ll leave now.

I'm trying to point out that we all have different road or commuting conditions and values in what we find useful or convenient. I think our community could be more welcoming of how everyone might want to drive and not be so singularly prescriptive on what they should or should not do. You want to use ePedal , D mode, B mode... it's not going to matter that much. Even hot button issues like heat and speed... as long as you're aware enough about your range to not cause you issues... why not drive the way you like? It's ok.

I find now with the Gen 2 Leaf, I'm not having to worry so much about the little things like going without heat or keeping my speed down on the highways. Certainly with the next wave of electric cars, that will be even less of a concern. So let's let everyone drive the way they want and be happy that EVs are gaining more mainstream acceptance.

The only reason that we tend to be "singularly prescriptive" is that people tend to come here to post issues about range - not about how they don't worry about anything other than enjoying the drive. I don't mind a bit that some people use ePedal exclusively. Now, if they start talking about how it's most efficient mode for all driving...

2018 SV with tech and all weather packages

Like
1. Dashing when the light turns green
2. Digital display behind the steering wheel (the analog speedometer isn't used)
3. Not having to stop at a gas station
4. ProPilot for interstate trips
5. Heated steering wheel
6. Free charging on trips
7. Low maintenance
8. e-pedal
9. Front collision warning
10. Remote cabin temperature control

Dislike
1. Waiting for the infotainment to be ready, unlocking my iPhone, then plugging in for CarPlay to activate correctly
2. Rain drops on the backup camera
3. Door lock/unlock button on the door isn't illuminated
4. Lack of storage
5. The dash shows marks when you touch it
6. Not feeling the app is reliable (though they are supposed to release an update around when the Plus is released)
7. Feeling like I need Around View when parking (less driver's visibility compared to previous vehicles)
8. Still some range anxiety on trips
9. No option for wipers to stop when car is stopped
10. Infotainment software and no over the air updates

After a few days with the 2018 I am really impressed with the following compared to the 2015.

E-pedal around town
Pro-pilot lane assist in the interstate
Adaptive cruise control
Bluetooth audio streaming
Range
Acceleration
Exterior styling
Interior styling
Larger screen

Dislikes

Smaller storage bin


Overall it has turned out to be much more of an upgrade than I thought it would be over my Gen1.

How do I use this? My phone is already paired with the car. I almost always use Sirius/XM radio, but want the option of easily using Google Play Music without having to plug the phone in for Android Auto.

Just select Bluetooth audio from the source menu... Spotify just connects and starts playing for me when I get in the car if I have that input selected.

IIRC not all phones are compatible with the feature though.

Spotify has integrated with Waze and can be streamed over Bluetooth... This has basically rendered the Android Auto obsolete for me. I can listen to my music and get notified about traffic or cops taking radar without pressing a button.

I am also shocked how much I like the epedal for driving around town. Picking up my foot to press the brake seems archaic now lol. My buddy drove it yesterday and said the same thing.

+1 on E-Pedal but it does seem to be the most polarizing feature on the LEAF. Seems like there is no middle ground. You either love it or hate it.
