Where’s The LEAF? Nissan Next Video Only Shows Ariya Among Future Electric Cars
https://insideevs.com/features/425969/n ... kill-leaf/

I guess the Ariya is coming, after all.

There's also https://electrek.co/2020/05/28/nissan-w ... ough-2023/ but I'm not a real fan of pointing to Electrek as they're a known Tesla-fanboy site.

I knew that the Ariya was en route, but the end of the Leaf is a surprise - not because I'd heard otherwise, but because I interpreted the lack of mention of the Leaf to be a lack of change... Time to get serious about getting an ePlus...

I wonder if there will now be an 'Ariya S' with 40kwh pack and just FWD.

I downloaded the zip file on the right side of https://global.nissannews.com/en/releases/200528-03-e and inside the "MTP Presentation – Speech Talking Points.pdf" it says
In July, we will reveal the production model of our EV crossover called Ariya, shown as a concept at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The Ariya has cutting-edge styling inside and out, high-technology content including ProPILOT 2.0, a choice of powertrains, and much more. We expect the Ariya to play a key role as a brand driver and the face of Nissan for the new era.

"Choice of powertrains" sounds to me like a FWD version, although I suppose it could also mean a hybrid...but that makes no sense, as the Ariya was designed from scratch as an EV.

Hmmm... my interpretation is possible EV, PHEV and e-Power (non-plugin series hybrid) versions... Or, it could just be 2+different motor power output options, possibly dependent on battery pack sizes? As for which wheels are driven, I'd guess FWD first and maybe AWD as an option/later?

I do wonder if Leaf is going away or if it's folks speculating or reading too much into the video + presentation material or just clickbait, possibly even intentional from Nissan to generate buzz...

The Ariya was designed as AWD, with two motors. If the Leaf is being ended, then I'd expect to see what I suggested above: a FWD Base Ariya, possibly with a 40kwh option, as an entry-level Leaf replacement. If the price were low enough, that actually would eliminate most of the need for the Leaf.

I don't feel like a 40 kW battery is very marketable anymore. 50-60 feels like the minimum (unless you are Mazda).

40kWh is plenty for local and most regional trips, but unless you can convince people to specialize using multiple cars, I agree that it's probably not viable, at least in the U.S. Europe maybe.

You talking about 40 kWh batteries? 40 kWh Leaf has a motor rated at 110 kW (https://usa.nissannews.com/en-US/releas ... -press-kit).

 At least in my case, fixed. We'll have to see what Doug intended.
