Subscription required - you will have to quote relevant pieces (which is anyway a good idea while commenting).

I am not going to bother replying to the idiots in the comments on that useless article, but if you really want to piss them off, post the link to the "electrification coalition", and the 30 year plan to convert %75 of the US fleet to electricty, not because we want to, because we must.

Here's a way in via Google. The Holman Jenkins article should be the top choice: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=Congratulations.+You're+about+to+buy+a+fancy+new+Nissan+Leaf+or+Chevy+Volt+.+.+.+for+someone+else.&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Bill Moore broke into 'rant mode' about the article on EV World.

You could make the case that the entire US military budget should be funded by tax revenue on gasoline and jet fuel. How would you like to try to get reelected on that position?

From a national security perspective developing viable cars that run on something other than oil is a priority that has been neglected for far too long. We don't all need to have electric cars, but they need to be there so the market has some place to go when the oil supply is cut off. Once that is attained the subsidies should go away and the market left to sort it out. Same is true of wind power, where I would argue we are already at the point where the technology has evolved to the point it should be left to stand on its own in the market.

Thanks AndyH, that was indeed a great rant from Bill Moore. Also, thanks for the Google link....I should avoid posting when I am tired :)

In summary, as LTLFTcomposite points out, the author handily ignores the vast monies spent on a series of wars and police actions required to keep the Middle East just stable enough to get the oil out. He also basically compares electric car batteries to the ones on his laptop that keep having to be replaced every 2-3 years. So, ignoring any technology argument, he would have us believe that Nissan has invested billions of dollars on an electric dream. I don't think so.

Seven years ago a 50" flat panel TV cost nine grand and it wasn't even HD.

Total lack of perspective and vision to see where EV technology is headed.
