If a unit is pulling 49 watts it is likely the tool used to measure that is wrong or the Blink has a big issue. Mine pulls 9 watts 12 before the firmware change.

The agreement with e-Tec says you have to keep it plugged in and connected to your router. They may give the people that want to unplug it for whatever reason a warning or two, but I'll wager they will come and remove it if you continually keep unplugging it.
