Join us for a Saturday morning breakfast buffet at Hometown Buffet,
or some other location (see below).

Nominally, we Gather from about 8:30 until about 11:00 AM, but some will arrive at about 8:00 and some may stay later, if there is enough interest. Some come for a while, but have to leave early because they have a "real" life. :D

I usually try to arrive by 8:00, and am usually among the last to leave. HTB starts serving Breakfast at 7:30, and transitions to their Lunch menu at about 11:00.

Usually, we LEAF-Gather on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
Occasionally we have Local Clusters for special events at different locations.

Our Third Year (month 25 etc.) is found in thread:

------------ Locations -------------

Hometown Buffet on 17th in Santa Ana:
Located just East of I-5 on 17th street in Santa Ana
1008 EAST 17TH STREET
SANTA ANA, CA 92701
Phone: (714) 541-3020
Their "breakfast" hours are from 7:30 until 11:00 (when "lunch" begins").
I plan to arrive between 8 and 8:30, and stay until at least 11.

Hometown Buffet in Cerritos:
About 0.2 miles east of the 605 freeway. Use the "South Street" exit about a mile south of the 91 freeway, going east to 11471 South Street. The HTB is north of South Street, "hidden" behind other buildings.

Cerritos Nissan:
18707 Studebaker Road, just west of 605. Take the first exit south of 91 (South St), and go west one short block, turning right (north) onto Studebaker Road. About 0.2 miles north, turn left onto Auto Square Dr. and then left again into Cerritos Nissan.

In the past, Cerritos Nissan has kindly offered to provide breakfast for us in their very nice UP-the-STAIRS Meeting Room. Usually, they have L1 and L2 charging available.

(The nearby HTB, just east of the 605 freeway, is the "backup" location.)

Suggestions Welcome

Congratulations to the SoCal LEAFers on completing a year of gatherings! Given what you have accomplished in the first year, it's fun to imagine what will come about in the second.

Hopefully (no, NOT a promise), we will have:

1. local Firmware Updating (for the SOC-Meter) in each of the 10 first-year LEAF-Gathering areas.

2. the QC communications
logged and decoded before 2012 arrives.

3. another ten LEAF-Gathering areas.

Currently, I think we have (roughly) these Gatherings:
a. SoCal, CA
b. San Diego, CA
c. San Francisco, CA
d. Seattle, WA
e. Portland, OR
f. Sacramento, CA
g. Fresno, CA
h. Phoenix, AZ
i. Tucson, AZ
j. Middle (Smyrna), TN

Did I miss any LEAF-Branch areas?

Maybe the Central Coast LEAFers?
I'm thinking of having a CAN Bus Tech Session at our meeting on the 10th. Well, by tech, I mean suitable for all lay persons who are interested

gascant,
If you are going to make a ppt about it, and you want me to look it over, just email it to me.

I just ordered parts for more SOC-Meters. I have one order from Washington state, and one from Norway!

I can hand deliver the one to Norway, if the buyer will front the cost of 2 business class tickets to Oslo! :D
My assistant is flying home to Stavanger in December but from what I gather that's quite far from the purchaser's city. Also, December is a while to wait.

I haven't got a good idea yet what I want to do. Hopefully do the firmware update and get some photos (or 'borrow' mwalsh's  )
We have one member who knows a lot of protocol stuff and cars who will lead part of the discussion. I'll work on it over the holiday weekend. Thanks for the offer!

But he is likely passing thru Oslo airport ...

No, he's connecting in Copenhagen.

REMINDER: Gathering at HTB in Cerritos this coming Saturday morning.

I hope to be able to show my SOC-Meter doing CAN-bus Logging.

I have a Red SOC-Meter ready for Allen to transport North (Thanks)!

Any suggestions for special topics, show-and-tell, or workshops?

I should have two Rev-2 (with Logging Connector) F1.08 Blue
SOC-Meter Kits available on Saturday. Do you want to reserve one?

Also, I still have some L6-20R to 5-15P adapter cords available.

I will be at Cerritos HTB on the 10th. You-all will get to see my EV-specific vanity plates, which have been waiting patiently at AAA since last December.

I have a suggestion for a future firmware update. Where should I post that ?

Tom,

I'll see you guys at Cerritos. Feels like it has been awhile! Look forward to seeing you. Suggestion for discussion: Oct. 16 plug in parade event (who's going?). :)

Kat

I'll be there early and, regrettably, must leave quite early. I'm planning to scarf an omelet (star of the HTB menu) and run. Looking forward to seeing you folks, as always.

How about:
1) How to repair a scratched bumper (ouch)?
2) What the raw SOC numbers actually represent and why we may be seeing lower numbers for the same charge?

1. Use a paint touch-up kit for small scratches?
2. We do not yet know how the LEAF's "SOC" is derived.
3. Several people have reported noticing lower "Bar" (or "SOC") values after charging to 80% (or even 100%).

Some seem to have been due to "mistakes" in the charging.

One possibility is that the battery has finally gotten enough out-of-balance that there is significant after-charging balancing going on.

Correlation to battery pack temperature seems inconclusive.

Actual Pack Aging, and real Capacity Loss MIGHT be a factor, but most have only reported "bars" and not the more definitive "SOC-Meter" values.

In the next version of the SOC-Meter firmware, I will try to include the "Capacity" number (similar to the LEAFs "SOC" number).
