I like the looks of this Chevy concept car, the TRU 140S, a 2+2 FWD but very swoopy:

This is looking very production ready. With sliding rear doors and plenty of cargo room - it can sell as many as Leaf will.

ummm Green Car?? i think states they will be on road this year in gas form, electric before 2017 for NYC taxi fleet. (hopefully much before) but this explains the "better performance" for same size pack. looks like batt pack 2 will be pushing these babies around

It's a minivan, its supposed to be ugly...

some mini vans look like mini bullet trains. fact of the matter; looks were not on the priority list...PERIOD

we needs a family EV option for around town. its gotta happen sooner or later. cannot just discount a very large segment of the transportation landscape and the other family option is the $80,000 Tesla S??

BTW, the NV200 is major award winner internationally, including International Van of the Year last year (the Kangoo ZE is the current winner). The proportions may look a little different, but it has amazing packaging efficiency with an interior slightly larger than a Caravan and a footprint on a Transit Connect, so the proportions serve a functional purpose. In terms of compact vans, I actually prefer the way it looks to other options, like the Fiat Doblo and Transit Connect.

I have to admit: I don't get the "step backwards" with the e-NV200's shifter. Ugh. Why revert to a "mechanical" design? Too many potential customers react negatively to the Leaf's "mouse"? I'm not sure they would understand the D/Eco horizontal movement anyway. My hope is that this is just the "concept" prototype for the uninitiated attendees at auto shows, and won't make it into final production. But maybe that's just me. :?

Backwards?, I think its more sensible than what Leaf uses.. that PRND shifting sequence is required by law.. I wish they would just use pushbuttons.

So I wonder if this has anything to do with the Federal shift interlock requirements. You know, you can't put in in gear without putting you foot on the brake?

Maybe the shifter needed to meet a customer requirement for commonality since unlike LEAF drivers who become familiar with the quirky little mouse shifter, FedEx drivers switch around between vehicle types. Just a theory.

Some more details in the video below. 3 versions planned, 1 for cargo, 1 for passengers, and a "combi".

Today Nissan announced that a 100% electric compact van, the e-NV200, will go into production at its Barcelona plant in the 2013 Financial Year.

The new model will be based on the existing award-winning NV200 currently produced at the plant and will be an important and innovative addition to Nissan's global range of light commercial vehicles (LCV's).

e-NV200 will become Nissan's second all-electric vehicle (EV) following the launch of the multi-award winning Nissan LEAF in 2010, underlining Nissan's long-term commitment to zero emission mobility.

The new model, which represents €100 million investment by Nissan in Spain, is expected to create around 700 new jobs at the plant and throughout its local supplier base...

e-NV200 will provide both businesses and families with functional and roomy interior space and will retain the host of innovative and practical features of the current NV200 line up combined with the most advanced powertrain components of the Nissan LEAF.

This will deliver a driving range similar to the Nissan LEAF on a single charge and similar performance, together with best in class running and maintenance costs...

I wish the "200" part of e-NV200 stood for 200km. With the extra frontal area I'm guessing that would mean about a 40% larger battery, 34kWh,... but with the larger footprint there should be room, and as a van it should be possible to design it to handle the additional weight. Make it an option if the additional cost is going to be a killer.
I'd be in line for one.

Style be damned. Function over form for me. Someday, an electric camper van, and touring in retirement, charging campground to campground. But for now, something that will hold more 2x4x8's than the leaf, and seven people when I need it. America wants big. A 4x4 truck with an 8 foot bed would be nice.
