The blue applique fits over the existing black console and is held by double sided tape...The instructions are available on the Nissan website, but here is a snapshot of the final figure in the manual...

fyi, while I am still happy with the quality of the kit that I purchased and installed, I did remove the piece that goes across the face of the glovebox. In my opinion, it is not sized correctly and never did really look quite right in that position (it is too big from top to bottom). I actually like the installation a lot more after removing the piece. I think it also helps the installation look a little less cluttered...

FYI, a volt owner (not me) did this as well. I think all black interior would look sharp. Thanks for the tip on this.

It's the same color that I chose - it looks really good in the Volt!

I agree and removed mine as well
