As you can tell by Tony's thread referred to above, the northbound journey was completed as planned. After Tony reached Canada and returned to Seattle, his LEAF was be handed over to

Portland, OR to Sacramento, CA == Drive Plan, Driver #2 (LEAFer)

Sunday, June 24

On or about midnite Saturday planning on taking the Coast Starlight Amtrak from Sacramento to Portland, with scheduled arrival Sunday 15:40.

Oregon, USA: Portland to Oakland

( Note: Not necessary to stop at EACH Oregon QC; however, they are listed for contingency purposes, as well as method to keep Battery Temperature lower. Plan to use QC charge from approx. 25% to 60%, except Ashland. I am considering skipping stations not needed until predicted SOC falls to below 40% SOC. However, I will stop per the below schedule in any case, for reasons of predictability. )

( All ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE times are ESTIMATES and conservative with built-in buffer ( slack time, if needed ). Departure from Portland is highly dependent on delays of Amtrak. If I am late arriving, unless excessively so, or unless forced by charging time needed, I will attempt to depart as scheduled. )

June 28th: Pick up Driver #4 and carpool up to Davis for EAA meeting.
Pick up Tony's car and caravan back from Davis to San Francisco Area.

Arrive Oakland Airport. Carpool to Davis or BART to San Francisco, Pickup BC2BC, San Francisco 28/29, Salinas 30, REFUEL July 1, Head south July 2nd, Return to Poway <address> on <date> keys and contents to <person> flexible.

Wow! What a huge commitment on the part of KeiJidosha.

If his plans fall through or he wants to change airports, I can offer to help a bit (I live in south San Jose) for a full charge's worth or so as it'd give me an extended test drive. But, I'd need either ride back to the pickup point or my house. I should be able to L2 charge via the dryer outlet at home and Tony's upgraded EVSE.

Let us know your plans for the SF Bay Area. We can get another turn out of BayLEAFs to greet/escort you through our maze of non-functional DCQC's. And, yes, there are lots of private L2's available here at the South end of the Bay, which can be available to you if you need them.

Schedule has some flex in case BC2BC is delayed coming south. I have family in the Cow Hollow area I’m planning to visit with Friday. I plan to drive from ~Crissy Field to Laguna Seca on Saturday. I need ~3 hours L2 charge somewhere south of SF to get to the track. Always happy to meet up with other EV drivers as time flies. 7-8am departure should put me in San Jose around 9am. Concern is a location that would support charging for multiple cars. When I came up for the Nissan Engineering Team Visit Dec. 3rd, I found most of the Silicon Valley sites were employee only, so need permission to charge. Would enjoy a QC if available/functional. Or SC Water District should not be crowded on Saturday AM, and is half way.

Open to suggestions.

I updated Post #3 (Driver #2). The plan is still flexible, and I have several alternates. On big issue is how many QCs to do to not adversely affect battery; the other issue is to avoid crossing Ashland-to-Redding at night. I want to be doing that in daylight. Since I don't get to Portland until late afternoon ... need to figure out how to split the use of the QCs over Sunday/Monday.

So -- in part -- I am waiting on Tony's experience with the AV-DC stations in Oregon on his way north

In the meantime, who reading here lives around the Oregon (and for Tony's benefit, the WA) AV-DC stations ? Any interest in meeting up with us and/or at the same time confirming they are operational and/or reserving them for us immediately prior to our arrival(s) ?

Any suggestions for RV parks in the Yreka / Weed / Mt. Shasta area ? ( Yes, I've looked them up ... but wondering if you have any personal favorites or reports of recent experience and their friendliness towards EVs ? )

( Side note: I have never been north of Redding. )

Thanks again to edatoakrun for this excellent post: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8879&start=181" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like I probably won't make that drive North, before you are on the way South. My previous rather pessimistic post, BTW, was based on a particularly frustrating experience on I-5. You might make over 4 m/kWh driving south, without any drama.

I probably won't have any more info before you get there. I'm still waiting (have been for a few weeks now) for my fob for the Oregon/Washington DCs.

Check Recargo for points South of Shasta Lake. I've posted all I'm aware of there, and have not even called RV parks North of Castella.

Railroad park said charging is OK, $10 total fee (includes the 5$ day use fee for the park) but You may want to charge north of there anyway.

When Your schedule firms up, I'll be in touch.

I will probably be able to meet you in the Redding area, if you are L2-ing there during the day, and may be able to help you make better use of your wait time, if you have no other plans.

I just updated the details for Oregon for Sunday afternoon, and details for Monday, all the way to Redding.

I am hoping to follow the time schedule closely, and get to bed at reasonable times. I will collect QC data per a form passed along by GaslessInSeattle.

Tuesday plan is still open with a later start (need my "beauty rest" ;) ) and a couple of possibilities.

Be sure to place the SPOT on the dash where it can see the satellites. I put it directly over top of the Tree building part of the dash, with the SPOT buttons up against the Tree screen, and the SPOT antenna full exposed to the sky.

getting revved up for tomorrow's return rally! It's pouring rain and in the 50's so lets hope for better whether! My trip to Olympia yesterday proved that making it from Shoreline to the Tumwater QC (70+ miles) on a cold rainy day can be a bit challenging!

the spot locator will be turned on sometime around 6:30 tomorrow morning for those interested: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=088MAy7YfcaEWiq2MtAHkugiZcolEOxBp

George, I made it to Tumwater in the rain and wind 69 miles no problem. I took Aurora, 599, then on to I-5. It's far less hilly along the Duwamish heading south.

FYI to KeiJidosha or whoever happens to be taking the LA/OC leg: It looks like the Mitsubishi QC in Cypress has gone down. Are QCs in Europe and Japan as flimsy as the few we have here seem to be?
Thanks for the update. Sounds to be working again now. I will also watch reports on Recargo and PlugShare as it's a ~4 hour schedule change if it's offline.
