Well the Capital District EV Driver's Group's first ever EV event went great and we had 7 Leafs in attendance. The above picture even made it to the top of the Sierra Club's blog entry for the National Plug-in Day weekend recap.

Oddly, the above picture is the only one I have of a Leaf! If you were there and took some pics please post them.

Glenn Marcucio had the most impressive display by bringing both of his EV's plus a borrowed i-Miev dealership sign. He actually hauled the 6.5' tall sign in the back of his Volt! His wife followed him to the event in their nicely striped i-Miev.

Tony Milillo's Mitsubishi i-Miev. :)

A few other pics from the event:

We had 31 EV's in attendance. Here we are lining them up for the parade.

Yesterday I held the first drive event for my Capital District EV Driver's group, up to the summit of Mt. Greylock. This is the highest point in Massachusetts.

We had five EV's participate. Two Fit EV's, two Leafs, and one Smart ED. Our first order of business was to drive over to Bob's Country Kitchen in Lanesboro, MA for lunch.

The weather was perfect and we got some great pictures.

After enjoying the camaraderie at the summit and swapping stories, we all went our separate ways, but made a plan to reset our trip meters and try to record our rates of regeneration on the 8 mile decent to the lower visitor's center. Here's the raw data that I can offer from my Fit EV:

I left the peak with 29 miles remaining on my distance to empty readout. After the drive down to the lower visitor's center my display rose up to 54 miles remaining. The trip computer said I had traveled 8 miles, recaptured 7.9 miles worth of current, with just .1 mile of actual usage. From the Visitor center down and back home it read: 26 miles traveled, 7.8 miles recaptured, for a total of 18.4 miles of actual electrical usage. In my garage it showed 40 miles of range remaining with a 36% charge left. Travis' Fit EV had 25% charge remaining when he got home to Nassau. [He carried additional passengers up the mountain and lives a bit further away than I do.] This performance was a pleasant surprise for both of us, because we didn't know for sure that we could make the trip.

And I thought I might not be able to make the 75 mile round trip with the long, steep climbs and high elevations.

It turns out it was actually pretty easy. :)

Myth busted: "Electric cars are only good for local travel." In the past four weekends I have driven my EV to Burlington, Middlebury, Vergennes, and St. Albans, VT. Across Lake Champlain on the Essex/Charlotte Ferry, to the top of Mount Greylock in MA, over Petersburg pass to North Adams, MA, to the Lake George Elvis festival, even internationally up through Montreal and Charlemagne, QC. That's about 1,400 miles for about $13.30 in electricity.

Essex, NY/ Charlotte, VT Ferry. Another all electric day trip up north and back for a total of 288.5 miles.

Another Lake Champlain Ferry is seen here going in the opposite direction towards Charlotte, VT.

I couldn't resist this photo opportunity in historic Essex, NY.

Nice new ChargePoint station at 585 Pine St. in Burlington, VT. There are two Level 2 J1772 chargers and a brand new Level 3 Fuji Fast charger. I met a LEAF driver there who was trying out the new 440V DC CHAdeMO charger for the first time. Impressive!

I really enjoyed our trip to Mt. Greylock last fall, so I went back again to the highest point in MA a few weekends ago.

My first charge in Canada was under the Palais des Congrès Hotel in 'Old' Montreal.

SMCCEconomyRun2014005_zps2aec3558.jpg

This was in Charlemage, which is about 40 minutes north of Montreal. This round trip was 650 miles.

Thanks to the members of the Capital Districk EV group who are currently participating in the branchezvous test rides and EV parade in Montreal. It's only the first of three days, but their presence is already well appreciated. I will be there tomorrow.

You are very welcome Berlino. :) We are having a great time here in Montreal. I've never been in a place that had so many EV's at once!

Our biggest event of the year, for National Drive Electric Week!

Most EV groups hibernate all winter but not ours. The Albany Capital District EV Drivers had not one, but two meets this winter. On December 29th we caravanned through Washington Park's Capital Holiday Lights festival. It would have been great to have an i-Miev join us.

Then on January 26th, we were invited to the Madison Theater's EV Expo night, that featured the screening of George Pakenham's "Idle Threat" documentary, which deals with enforcing the 3 minute curbside idling law in New York City. We had six EVs in attendance, a Ford Focus EV, a VW E-Golf, a Honda Fit EV, a BMW i3, and two Nissan LEAFs.

That's the producer and star of the "Idle Threat" documentary, George Pakenham on the left.
