Saw that. wondering why he waited? Guessing his 4th bar loss was well beyond the 60,000 miles?

My 5 year battery warranty is up today. No 4th bar drop....too bad Nissan didn't extend their "goodwill" program to the 2013 models or later. I guess I will just need to live with the limited range. Good luck to all the other Leaf owners out there who decided to purchase instead of lease. Dwindling battery range will be a challenge but I can make it work.

Watch my fourth bar drop this month...

Nissan consumer affairs called me regarding the email I sent. Basically no help... The only suggestion the lady has was to go to a Nissan dealership and see what their financing department can offer for a new battery.

Spending $5k on a new battery for 30% more capacity seems a bit silly.

I will just hang onto the Leaf as it is. Limited range but charging at work and home will be fine for now.

Good luck to all you other Leafers out there. Doubtful any other owners will get assistance from Nissan going forward on their "goodwill program". Treating the 2011 and 2012 owners with respect and offering to pay for a new battery with 10%-20% out of pocket for early adopters was great for those who took the offer. 2013 owners don't receive anything other than a suggestion to get a new battery financed...

Thanks again Nissan for the dedication to your customers.

I am in line for a Sondors. I hope the Sondors enters into production and isn't in limbo like the Elio...

Ya. I hear you. But I don't think we can get our hopes up for such cars soon. A lot of things in the EV world has either been a flop or too expensive because it's still in its early stages. I haven't had as many bar losses as others (only one bar lost not too long ago) but I would like to go farther in an EV without having to rob Fort Knox. In five years from now maybe we'll be able to pick up a used Tesla 3 for cheap.

Thanks for the reply, I totally agree with you. EV market is exploding and battery technology is getting much better. It is great not paying for gas and I am sure there will be many options out there without paying too much very soon.

I figure I can run my Leaf for another three years. At that point, I am sure there will be plenty of options in the market at a very affordable price. Tesla might be an option but it seems way expensive for their top tier models. Some state the build quality isn't up to par but who knows.

Early Nissan Leaf adopters leaves me a bit annoyed. 2011 and 2012 models received a goodwill program to replace the battery costs. Now they are turning their back on the early adopters by not helping in anyway for a new battery replacement for the 2013 models. Good work Nissan...

Nissan starts exchange program in Japan. At 300,000 yen ($2,853), this might be a good deal for the older Nissan Leaf owners.

Check out the comments at the end this article. Good information from other Leaf owners. I am glad my old 24 kwh pack isn't degrading as much as the newer packs...

Let’s hope Nissan has rectified this with the new 40-kWh LEAF

What can really magically change? The Lizard pack was just a marginal improvement if any at all given they changed capacity bar loss points. The 30 kWh pack is a total disaster. Is the 40 kWh pack any better? Who knows, I'll check in after 2 years.

I bought a used 2013 Leaf SL with a build date of March 2013. It had 10,584 miles when I purchased it in October 2016. I lost the first capacity bar about a month after purchase with 12,576 miles. I lost the 2nd bar on June 14, 2017 with 22,455 miles. I just recently lost the 3rd capacity bar around 28,300 miles in November 2017. What date will Nissan use for the battery warranty? According to the Carfax report, it arrived to a dealer in Grapevine, TX on March 26, 2013 and was sold to the first owner on May 28, 2013. Do I have until the end of May 2018 to hopefully lose the 4th bar?

Current Leaf Spy readings:
AHr=46.71
SOH= 71%
Hx= 64.72%
39 QCs
2839 L1/L2s

Still hoping for that 4th bar drop. Being unseasonably cold in ATL isn't helping. I also lost a month of driving when my Leaf was damaged at the dealership and it took them a month to fix. it. I still have until the end of May. Currently stats:

AHr - 45.63
SOH - 69%
Hx - 63.09%
45 QCs
31322 L1/L2s
32,662 miles

It's not pleasant to see the numbers increase sometimes.....

3/25/2018
Ahr - 46.92
SOH - 71%
HX - 65.04%
45 QCs
3147 L1/L2s
32,885 miles

In Europe, the time vehicle spent in service is not counted in warranty. Some people had their vehicle spend more than half a year in the shop waiting for parts. Warranty halts for that time.

One thing is clear and that is Nissan did make changes in BMS to address degradation and yeah, A LOT of complaining about charge rate slowdowns which is a bit funny since the rates of the 40 kwh LEAF now matches the rates of the TMS enabled Chevy Bolt.

Oh wait! That isn't true... One thing that the LEAF does is bases its charge rate on starting conditions of the battery so you can start a charge with pack temps below 100º and still get well over 40 KW at SOC below 60%.

I watched a Bolt charging at 130 amps on EVGO at Tacoma Mall which was cool but then the Bolt hit like 55% and the charge rate dropped to 23 KW... Didn't really see it happen. It was 130 amps, I was talking to someone else and just happened to glance back at the station and it was at 62 amps, all in less than 2-3 minutes.

I thought WTF!! I initially blamed it on EVGO and their per minute money grab pricing scheme but seems that is just how Bolts charge?

Tell that to the Goofs on the forum who have been spouting for years that quick charging does not affect battery life.
Oh, wait ... never mind

Over the weekend I noticed my 4th bar drop. I needed that to happen three months ago! I will send the numbers once I plug the Leaf Spy in if that helps any of the members.

Good luck all that are close to the 4th bar drop before the warranty period expires.

I wonder if calling Nissan customer service will do any good as the warranty period is up in my case. I bet they just laugh in my face...

Here is the data on my 2014 Leaf. Not looking promising for a battery replacement but I still have decent range. Any vets out there have any comments? The battery warranty for me ends June 2019. Currently have 10 bars.

My guess is you won't get there. You have a year to go and the guy that posted above my post has an aHr at 42 and no fourth bar drop. It looks like from your numbers is the drop isn't going to happen no matter how hard you drive it.

You do have a good year so take it to Arizona and beat the crap out of it...ha Air conditioning on full blast, heat on the seats, steering wheel heat, take off the eco mode and drive it like you've rented it. Bring the car to turtle mode and leave it fully charged on the hot pavement. How about using mirrors on the ground to point towards the underside of the car? Still having a 5 point drop in aHr in a year period might be impossible but I am no expert.

Sorry to say but like my numbers, I was hoping that 4th bar would drop during the warranty period. Of course, three months later it drops.

Anyone out there have the process to submit to BBB on any filing I can do or if this is worth the effort or is it futile?

It's futile. You are asking for something that Nissan never promised.

I hardly knew ye. But I knew it was basically a 10-bar Leaf when I bought it about 2 months ago.

Stats, for the curious:

2013 Leaf SV (built in 2/2013, so probably no lizard battery)
odometer: 53,915
AHr: 49.62
SoH: 75.87
Hx: 68.31

Stats 2 months ago:
odometer: 53,215
AHr: 51.28
SoH: 78.41
Hx: 71.41

I hope the downward trend doesn't continue quite so quickly. But it is what it is. And even its limited range is plenty for my needs.
