I think the 8,000 member group was the one "started by Nissan" that was invitation only at startup and was directed ONLY to actual LEAF Drivers.

Ah yes, I recall that one. If you didn't meet their "active social-media user" criterion you were told the group was "full". Still pisses me off.

I can assure you that they are MUCH less picky now. It seems like there is no criteria at all any more

The issue with Facebook is its not moderated. Several sites have active moderators and generally do better but controlling content and comments has not worked well at all and a lot of it is due to how Facebook manages threads.

Too many comments meant to address the OP are interpreted as a comment to a MUCH later post. This causes a lot of confusion and misinformation.
Yep on all of the above.

DaveinOlyWA said:
A good example is a thread in the T3 group. It has become an amazingly frustrating circle jerk over the $7500 tax credit. At last count, I think the phrase "tax liability" was mentioned a dozen times but the most recent post asks a question about their W-2 form. IOW; A complete clusterfuck along with several people unable to let it go and repeating the same thing over and over so I get a notice someone responded "to me" and I click on that notice and get taken to the OP of a thread with 200 responses and I am left on my own to find it.
I can't speak to that thread, but yes, the above pattern on Leaf FB groups on other topics is similar, although not necessarily ballooning to 200 responses, or as quickly.

For some threads that degenerate into a cluster$%^$%^, I just have to bow out and turn off notifications for that thread. I sometimes just can't take it any more.

What really has been driving me batty sometimes on Leaf FB groups due to the UI is just the number of folks chiming in who really don't have a clue and/or are giving bad info (sounds like that was happening in that "T3" tax credit thread, as well). So, if someone asks a question, there might be a couple right answers (repeated, of course), a whole bunch of wrong ones, sparking more discussion and questions. All of this takes time to read. There might be good discussion that's in a reply to a reply, that the OP and others may never see, as it gets buried.

In other cases, the correct answer is given yet nobody looks at it and people keep chiming in with guesses.

Here's one that bothered me recently, someone at https://www.facebook.com/groups/seattlenissanleaf/permalink/1848372511860844/ with a '16 and 15.5K miles recently lost a capacity bar. They ask if anyone's experienced this. Of course, a ton of people with NON-2016 Leafs, like 2013s to 2015 in the mild Pacific NW chime in saying "no", giving their mileage, acting (or are) surprised, etc. Ummmm... hello??? The 2016 30 kWh batteries aren't holding up and the 2013 to 2015 Leafs are rather different, to put it mildly. The thread of course has ballooned.

There's another thread which I need to get back to when I have time, where in response to the charge to 80% setting being removed, some idiot is asserting that charging a Leaf to 100% means it's only charged to 80%!!! WTF?!?!? This is WAY off.

Also, if I've participated in a bunch of threads after work at night. If I check in the morning or the afternoon the next day, I might have like 5 to 10+ notifications.

I'm going to have restrain myself and cut back on the amount of time I participate on Leaf FB groups, for my sanity, besides lack of time. I also don't want to get into this sucked into this phase as much:
duty_calls.png
. Worst case is that I pull out of all but two Leaf groups. That means I'd have come full-circle. For the longest time, I was only on two Leaf FB groups and may revert to that.

Two things have been really pissing me off lately on FB, the 2nd more than the other:

1) Sometimes, when replying to threads or even just posts on a friend's wall, Facebook flags my post as spam even when it's not. It seems like just including a link (even to places like http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Battery#Battery_Capacity_Behavior or somewhere on insideevs.com, GCR or nissannews.com) makes it think it's spam. I can click that it's not spam, but it seems like the reply remains locked until the other side clicks something unintuitive to unlock it. If they don't, it can only be seen by me and the other person.

2) More recently, when replying to threads, it seems like my replies are disappearing basically after I've "saved" them. They're flat out gone. Perhaps it's some A/B test FB (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A/B_testing) is doing for spam filtering? It again seems like if I provide links (to supporting info), there's a good chance my reply will be GONE. :( I've been so upset at this, all I can do is reply again w/o proof or just drop out.

Some folks on FB are very annoying w/their posting of incorrect info.

(As an FYI, MANY web companies and those have have apps for smartphones and tablets do A/B testing these days, including my employer.)

Have you tried inserting spaces in the links to make them non-clickable? Or leaving out the http:// and posting the rest of the link? Me, I can't deal with Facebook. I got off of it while the getting was good, about 10 years ago. I'm also a 'Someone on the Internet is wrong!' kind of guy, and I've had to force myself to back off from it, if only for my health. This is the one remaining place where I post daily.

No. Not yet. Part of the point is so that they're easily clickable.

Hahaha. I think I joined FB in 2007, which was still pretty early for them. But yes, I know what you mean. I have a busy day job and other priorities that keep me busy enough, as it is.

edit: More of my posts vanished today. :( I did this evening try putting a space after https:// or http:// to a an archived page (e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20160304054618/https://www.sae.org/smartgrid/chargingspeeds.pdf) and that didn't help. Reply gone. :( What a waste of time. :(

Well the issue is ANY facebook user can flag ANY post as SPAM. I have witnessed SEVERAL of your conversations with people who struggle to score double digits on the IQ test and wouldn't surprise me in the least that they were the cause.

Indeed, that could be part of it

But, I still am intermittently having trouble w/responding to https://www.facebook.com/groups/nissan.leaf.owners.group/permalink/1877969525607213/ w/o having my replies auto-deleted. It means I cannot include ANY URLs or any .whatever (e.g. .com) in my text. If I do, there's a good chance it'll disappear, be not visible to others and not editable. POS Facebook! It literally happens within seconds. It's not like I come back hours later and they're gone.

So, I have to get creative if I tell people to Google for site:mynissanleaf.com (or whatever) keywords here.

That is an interesting scenario. I post a LOT of links to my blog all over the place and I get random complaints from people so I will remove that site from my submittal list and I get random requests to add a site (sometimes the same one that was removed...) but the reality is unless someone responds to the post, I don't keep track of what happens to the post after I submit it. I guess its possible some of them are disappearing. My site has ads. Ones I do not control. I have the option to do so and they used to let me pick my ads but that is no longer a "free" option so I let them do whatever they want.

FYI; my blog does have the option to register for notifications of new posts; an option I think all of 20? or so people have taken...

FWIW, I just had the auto-deletion of replies happen in two Leaf FB groups tonight + the i3 FB group. :(

I reported the bug to FB each time and the 2nd time, I had screenshots of before (comment present), after auto-deleting and after I click "view more replies" which reveals no more comments because it was my auto-deleted reply. :(

I've had to resort to posting text and saying Google for ___________ to point them the right way. Even including a domain like mynissanleaf.com seems to cause deletion, so I have to leave off the .com.

So Facebook is automatically deleting your post based on some algorithm that suspects you are posting SPAM?

I don't know if the recent privacy settings debacle has anything to do with it, but I have had 4 friends and relatives close their account simply because they were tired of it.

It has become somewhat frustrating to use Facebook on my cellphone as well. Notifications are nearly useless. When I click on them, they only take me to the thread in question where I have to dig for the post. I also get notifications of posts from 3 days ago...

I should have screenshot this but one from Tony Williams posted Wed, came up on the notification panel "Wed, 9 mins ago" This happened about 1 AM last night while I was sitting at a charger BS'ing with other EV Night Owls...

It seemed like the problem of FB auto-deleting of my posts with domains and URLs had gotten better as I've been able to posts links to MNL and Edmunds w/o issue today but... today I posted a link to TMC in one reply and auto-deleted it. :( I lost all my work on that reply and hadn't copy pasted it before.

Will try again later and submit another bug report if it's repro.

Another peeve... gotta love some of the idiots on FB car groups, this time on an i3 group.

So, https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3/permalink/2087022024704981/ was a post about the guy loaning someone else their i3 and let's just say, they had pedal operation confusion and damaged the car. So, some idiot i3 FB group user comes along w/a comment and posts derisive misinformation claiming the '18 Leaf has only ONE pedal, no brake pedal and let's see how that goes. I and others chime in telling him he's wrong, explaining e-Pedal can be turned on and off (and that e-Pedal on is real similar to i3 all the time (can't be turned off on i3), that there still is a brake pedal and why it's used, etc. I mentioned to him I test drove '18 Leaf for 45+ minutes.

The idiot goes off and complains about us being trolls, derailing the thread (well, he added the BS, not us), says zzzzz, boring, etc. Then, he deletes his comment, taking all the replies me made with it! That's the worst part about FB. People can delete comments or threads, taking ALL the replies with it. I wish it would just delete only that post and leave all the replies.

There usually aren't too many idiotic folks in https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWi3, but this guy takes the cake. I still have screenshots of the notifications so at least I'll know who he is, if there's a next time.

Since the reason for your reply was to refute the comment, and once the comment is gone the misinformation is gone, why not just make brief, easily written comments that you can cheerfully expect to be deleted - at which point the need for them is gone anyway? I know it's hard to resist when Someone On The Internet Is Wrong, but not all flies need to be swatted with dictionaries. ;-)

More pet peeves about people w/misinformation, some of them idiots.

Today, some guy at https://www.facebook.com/groups/nissan.leaf.owners.group/permalink/2504177702986389/ basically said he had 65 km on his GOM and his destination was 80 km away. Will I make it?

There were proper replies including to slow down and some moron replies with this garbage. Luckily, he deleted it. I didn't have time to reply as I was busy w/my day job and had tasks that had to be finished at work, esp. when my teammates were around.

Later today, in another post, someone at https://www.facebook.com/groups/nissan.leaf.owners.group/permalink/2505150722889087/ asks if they install a 240 volt EVSE, will their electricity bill go down vs. how they're charging now (via 120 volts). Of course, another moron comes on and claims it won't at all, mixes up units (talks about watts when he means kWh, says "KW/h", doesn't understand the fixed charging overhead, doesn't even know what we're referring to when we're talking about pumps running, etc.). Sigh...

At least most other folks give correct info there.

I strongly suggest that you avoid Yahoo Answers. It's surprisingly self-descriptive.
LOL!

When you mentioned that, the immediately evoked memories of this "gem":
https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080211063124AA26on8
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/how-is-babby-formed
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll-lia-FEIY

I knew of that ages ago. I showed it to a Yahoo alum at my work and surprisingly, he didn't know about it. (There are a bunch of Yahoo alums at my work but were some more before.)

People just want to be "heard," I guess. If I had a dime for every product review or answer to a question about a product that said, in essence, "I don't have one" or "I just bought it but haven't used it yet (or opened it)" or "I don't know" I'd have literally hundreds of dollars. ;)

OMG!! I saw your interaction and I have to marvel at your tenacity. I attribute these types of online interaction as the main reason why I have very little hair left!
