Why so many spam topics?

I see "delete post" and "warn user" but not "Delete topic." Do I just delete the first post, then?

Yes generally if you delete the first post(and no one has yet posted to the topic) the thread goes away. Things get harder if someone has responded to the OP, but I've rarely seen that happen on MNL, most people seem to ignore the SPAM threads

I've now discovered the additional Mod control panels, but will try to avoid using them, at least until I know what I'm doing! As I wrote earlier, I'm just trying to get rid of the bloody spam.

I'm ending my first 'night shift' of deleting spam. Roughly 25 topics and about 30 posts got deleted. The spammers seemed to take a couple of hours off after their posts started to vanish almost instantly, but I do have other things to do at night and they started back in near dawn. If will be interesting to see if they give up because they can't document their efforts, or if they just throw up X number of spam topics a night regardless of how long they exist...

At the bottom of the page is a 'tool' drop down with a "delete topic" option

Will it work on topics with more than one post? Deleting all the posts in a topic will work, I now know.

I see something remarkable on the lower Mod menu for topics. It's "Change to "Sticky." Can it really be that easy to make a topic into a sticky? Like my used leaf buying guide and Best, least-Known Tips & Tricks, or the LeafSpy topic, or several others...? Why hasn't it been used, or doesn't it work? No, I'm not going to do anything myself - I'm just asking.

That's the thing - no one wants to be the one that determines what should or shouldn't be sticky

There is a 'moderator only' section, we could discuss in there about topics to make stickies

Can I have a link? Before we move it there, though, I'd like to propose a topic in which we just vote on which topics the people here would like to see made sticky. That shouldn't be difficult, and I assume the process can be reversed...?

While we're in the Spam topic: there is a GIANT ad for amazon.com(?) at the time of every page that is screwing up page loading. Is it legit, or has some spammer hacked the site?
