I wonder if he'll [Kelley] have to stay in Japan to have his surgery done
Since the surgery is elective, Kelley should rot in jail like his buddy. Certainly post-op should be in jail.

His wife in the video at https://www.autonews.com/executives/renault-nissan-finances-draw-scrutiny-greg-kellys-wife-releases-video-defense says
DK: Right now, our family’s main concern is Greg’s health. Greg has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and was to have surgery on December 7th in Nashville. Greg’s symptoms include numbness, tingling and shooting pains in his extremities.

(00:48-01:05)

DK: Greg was able to get word to us through his attorney in Japan that his condition is deteriorating. There has been an increase in the numbness, tingling and shooting pains. His symptoms are exasperated by sleeping on a futon on the floor of his detention cell.

(01:05-01:24)

DK: For over two weeks Greg was without the pillow he uses to support his neck while sleeping. We were told by his doctor that if he did not have the surgery within two months these symptoms could become permanent.
There's more regarding her providing medical records to Tokyo Detention Center and a doctor in Japan she'd like to have examine Kelly.

He can stay in jail while he is taking some tylenol, losing weight and paying for physiotherapy lessons.

Court grants bail to Ghosn's aide
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20181225_22/
Kelly is expected to head to the hospital when he gets out. He will be treated for a neck problem that his wife says got worse in detention.

The court set bail at roughly 635,000 US dollars, and Kelly paid the amount. He is due to be released, but there are conditions. He may not travel outside Japan, and his contact with those involved in the case will be restricted.

Why ? Because you approve of horrible system they have in Japan ?

There is zero reason for not granting bail for Ghosn & Kelly. It is unlikely they will commit violent crime or runaway.

Apparently the usual Japanese system isn't all that better than Chinese or KSA's or Guantanamo Bay.

Why ? .
Because he should be treated like any other prisoner in Japan.
Because Ghosn is most certainly a flight risk.

Ghosn's aide Greg Kelly freed on bail
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20181226_04/
Kelly issued a statement through his lawyer. He denied falsifying financial records. He said he believed his innocence will be revealed in a trial, and he expects a not-guilty decision will be returned.

Kelly said he wants to restore his damaged reputation and return to his family as soon as possible.

Nissan's President and CEO Hiroto Saikawa had this to say after Kelly's release.

Reporter: What do you think of Mr. Kelly's release?
Saikawa: I understand that it has been processed by the judiciary.
Reporter : Mr. Kelly denied making false entries.
Saikawa: I have nothing to say on that.

Nissan bans employees from contacting Ghosn, Kelly
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20181226_05/ - this part isn't surprising and to me, would be standard practice for any large company if something like this came up.

A more descriptive title would be "New Allegations that Ghosn laundered stolen Nissan funds of ~ $15M through Saudi Corporation."

Ghosn was quite prodigious in his theft and fraud. I'm pretty sure we are over $100M.

Criminals do not expect to be caught. In Ghosn's case he also thought he was above the law.

From a certain POV he leveraged his early success to defraud Nissan with a degree of impunity. Now that his star has set his criminality is being prosecuted with a vengeance.

It it is something more than trivial, jails have health care services.
