That is it. The button only have "Auto" word printed on it with image of the 2 prong plug above and tiny lock displayed under wording. All he needs to do is press on it and LED in it will lit up and there will be no issues with DC charging. This button allows auto negotiation with chargers and auto lock/unlock of the cable based on charge status. It is primary mode for DC charging. When it is off (default) it is designed for L1 and L2 chargers (nothing to negotiate) to prevent theft, basically it will keep cable locked and coordinate with car lock/unlock status without any regards to charge complete state. So cable will stay locked until you unlock you car with remote. Another words, if you never use your own charger in public places - just enable this "auto" mode and you would never need to bother with it again. It is possible my car has newer firmware. Ionics firmware is updatable trough SD slot in media console, not only maps, but other parts of the car.

I wonder if that same "auto" setting is in the Kona.
On one forum, I think the U.K. one, someone mentioned he couldn't unlock his charging connector until pushing the door unlock function on the fob .

Yes, I got stuck on it as well, was very confusing as I never even locked the car. BTW, there is a mechanical release cable under the luggage cover, but how would I know, I was just test driving, well, with improvised DC charger detour. When this mode is disabled both car and charger refused handshake (error out), but cable ended up locked. I guess, DC charger was not happy to be locked or car was not happy it could not apply lock, but locked it anyways.

Thanks, the effects of this button on stability of DC charging are a bit puzzling but sure, as long as it works... No idea if he knew about this button.

I found the chargers, a whole 6 of them, all 150kW, 5 stalls with dual CSS and one with CSS/CHADEMO. Brand spanking new site, but I think the site is not officially open yet. I sent a message to EA support about this location, but no response yet. It is on the map but the icon is gray color star.

Looks like EA 150 kWh charging site went online. All stalls are powered and with glowing logos. I saw Bolt owner chatting with BMW dude while BMW was charging. Although, the site is not yet marked on the map as active. Now I just need to drain my battery, but it is at 70% now. May be at the end of next week I will be ready to give it a shot.

Finally, I was able to get near EA Chargers with 51% battery after driving ~ 70 miles on highways.

So lets compare what happened on 50kW free charger and EA $$ charger:

75% @ 392V*120A=47kW
78% @ 395V*109A=43kW
81% @ 394V*88A=35kW
86% @ 395V*59A=23kW
90% @ 398V*59A=23kW
92% @ 399V*45A=18kW

*** EA 150kW $$ charger. Total paid: $5.19, Energy delivered: 10.57 kWh, Max charging rate: 58.96 kW, Time: 00:13:00
53% @ 55 kW
62% @ 57kW
67% @ 58kW
77% @ 44kW
79% @ 36kW
82% @ 27kW
83% ended

According to https://evbox.com/electric-cars/hyundai ... q-electric : The max. charging capacity this car can handle is 70 kW.

So there could be an improvement in the warm weather to reach max charging rate of 70 kW.

What is interesting from the EA session? I got 32% battery charge boost with 10.57kWh, I used heater for less than 10 mins at 39F ambient temperature and car was 4F below target temp, so effort was minimal to keep it warm (1kWh*10/60=0.17kWh). You can observe the heater draw with rate boost from 57kW to 58 kW between 62 to 67 % SOC. So, what is total battery capacity usable really? (10.57-.17)/(32)*100= 32.5 kWh. Not far away from my 32 kWh usable battery capacity estimates based on what my car delivers and my own cell voltage vs. SOC research on Ionic EV with Torque Pro app. BTW, 28kWh is advertised battery capacity on Ionic EV.

It is good to have EA charger when you are in emergency, but charging cost would be more than buying gas and driving ICE car, unless your car can pull 150kW, or at list > 100kW to break even. EA charging is cheaper than EVgo and no membership fees. I am spoiled with free L2 chargers at work and other places I visit. I do not even bother to use free DC chargers 24-50 kW available around.

I was getting 5.1m/kWh(140m range) through the winter and once it started to worm up it climbed to 5.8m/kWh(156m range). Those efficiency figures are pretty much unattainable by any other EV on the market, even Tesla 3 fades into distant second place.

IONIQ EV never delivered rated range(124m) though, instead of this bad boy is overdelivering every single time and by a huge margin. I always drive in Normal mode, hated Eco on the Leaf, but it was needed to maintain decent efficiency. Finally, EV I could trust, what a difference.

I charge once a week (30-100%), very rare twice a week (top off, when I need to do extra errands 50+ miles on weekends) on free L2 changers at work. Powered off my fancy WiFi connected charger at home due to no use since December, 2018.

The max DC charging rate is not verified yet, because of you really need to find a free charger with this capacity, as pay-to-charge ones are tempted to limit charging rate as they bill by the minute, not by kWh, so I do not have much trust for those. My current max was 58kWh, so nothing to complain, but it should go higher.

What's your avg mph? What is your m/kWh at 70 mph? Thanks
