The base of this thing is a very glossy plastic and I'm sure it will get scratches and other things that make it look "unclean". What's the best way to cover it up and protect it from the inevitable high-visibility damage?

Back in the day someone did carbon-fiber looking vinyl wrap on the piano black plastic parts in their earlier model LEAF. That looked pretty sharp:
