Hello fellow LEAFers and LEAF-fanciers!

I'm selling my 2018 LEAF S. Price is $18,500. Car is financed so I'd sell the car, release it to the buyer (with bill of sale and DMV release of liability) and then send the title when I get it.

Car has a 151 mile range with full battery. 0-60 in about 8 seconds, but that first 40 is really quick (electric torque goodness!).

Car has 12,011 miles. I'm still driving it occasionally and keep the electrons flowing, but no commuting or long trips. The car looks great (Nismo-style wrap, brand new wheels) and drives fantastically.

This LEAF S has the factory quick-charge option installed (very important feature). This includes the Nissan charging unit, with adaptors for L2 or trickle charging. Sadly, I'm only able to trickle-charge at home because I have a measly 60a at the panel and no easy way to upgrade yet, and the HOA is being very slow to move with any help.

The car was parked and hit by someone in a vehicle (cosmetic damage, no frame damage) and was professionally fixed by Patterson Collision up here in Santa Clarita, under State Farm insurance. Patterson is highly-rated on Yelp and they did a fantastic job. The guys at Patterson mentioned that it looked worse than it was and verified no frame damage.

There's the tiniest of nicks on the right front passenger door, though there's no ding. Can't even see it unless you really look. The car is garaged when I'm not driving it.

Why am I selling? I'm a motorcyclist primarily, so my commute to L.A. is via motorcycle. Stacking the car and bike in the garage is a pain, and I just don't drive enough to justify the payments or insurance costs. I love it though, and have no complaints. I also bought this car in Feb. when it was raining like mad (some of the most rain SoCal has seen in my adult life) and it was pretty cold too. It was also the first time I bought an umbrella as a SoCal person...ever.

This car has never been smoked-in, and I'm the second owner (I don't smoke or let anyone smoke in it). It's super clean. My sense of smell is absurdly good (due to early hearing loss, weirdly) so I'd know if it was smoked in. If I don't smell it, nobody is gonna smell it.

Mods include California-legal window tint, and I've replaced the stock the headlight bulbs with better aftermarket options (much whiter light, better spread).

The wheels are also brand new; Motegi 16x7 using stock Ecopia tires. These have the same lug pattern and offset as stock: +40mm offset, Lug nut pattern is 5 X 114.3 (4.5"). Wheel locks included with key. Stock hubcaps are no longer an eyesore, and these are much lighter than the stock steel wheels. Rolling resistance is similar to stock (which is why I kept them similar in size), but way less unsprung weight and more width per wheel for a little more grip.

Red HOV sticker is good til 2022. I believe people can apply for a purple sticker after that, but definitely do your research here before buying.

Interior features are standard, though there's no heated seats or wheel. It does have the usual A/C and heating, USB, Bluetooth, AM/FM radio with single CD player, can play MP3 files off of a USB thumbdrive, power windows/locks, back-up camera, etc. No Pro Pilot but there's proximity warning alerts if a vehicle is close to you on the road. Both side mirrors fold (manually).

This does have the standard back-up camera and it works very well!

Battery is in great health, no missing bars.

Location: Santa Clarita area, in SoCal.

SoCal Edison will give California residents $1000 once you prove ownership, and this is good for used cars too.

Check out the gallery and PM me if you're interested! I'm also including more pics at the end of this thread.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, a person who buys a new car is eligible for up to $10k in tax credits in California.

^^^
It's just the usual $7500 Federal tax credit and $2500 CVRP (https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/eligible-vehicles). However, for CVRP, there are eligibility requirements including an income cap: https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/eligibility-guidelines and https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/income-eligibility#income-cap.

I've never qualified for CVRP: lease too short (for 1st Leaf, I knew that going in), used EV (current Leaf) and now (Bolt), income too high. The current income caps started a few years ago.

Those are generous income caps for the CVRP, even for California.
Do pre-tax retirement contributions reduce the applicable income ?

Pretty amazing, the price drops on the 40 kWh LEAF S

The rules are stated at https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/income-eligibility. I've not bothered to look into this in detail since I'm well over and there's nothing I can do about it now given the criteria they use for income verification if asked to provide proof. The company I work for pays VERY well.

Although those amounts might seem high, I found http://www.hcd.ca.gov/grants-funding/income-limits/state-and-federal-income-limits/docs/Income-Limits-2019.pdf from http://www.hcd.ca.gov/grants-funding/income-limits/state-and-federal-income-limits.shtml. In Santa Clara County (where I live), it says the median income for a 1 person household is $92K.

Our housing prices are insane here so in tech, companies tend to have to pay pretty high vs. the national average. These are both from early 2019.

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Want-to-Buy-a-House-in-San-Jose-or-San-Francisco-You-Have-to-Make-200K-or-More-506392861.html
https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/02/26/looking-for-a-home-in-silicon-valley-better-make-255k/

From the 1st story:
San Jose is now the most expensive region in the country when it comes to housing, with the median price now being $1.25 million. To afford a median-priced home, your salary needs to be $255,000 per year. A typical family in San Jose makes less than half that.
...
If homebuyers in the San Jose metro put 10 percent down instead of 20 percent, the required salary increases from $254,835.73 to $294,778.59.

And things aren’t that much better in San Francisco, about an hour’s drive north of San Jose, where a median home price is now $952,200. If you want to buy a house in the City by the Bay, you need to be making almost $200,000.

At that price I'd be tempted to buy another Leaf. I wonder if it still possible to get the $5k CO credit if the car is bought out of state.

Why does yours have a black hood? Is that aftermarket thing or did some 2018's come like that? Is that part of the 2-tone paint?

Mine is all white.

Just curious.

Hi, wow I didn't come back soon enough to check the replies.

I put a wrap on it to simulate the look of the Nissan NISMO style, where Nismo is Nissan's inhouse tuning division. I removed the steel wheels and put some lighter and nicer-looking aluminum wheels on (similar to stock sizes but with less weight and less unsprung rotational mass), upgraded the headlight bulbs (whiter, better spread) and put California-legal tint on as well.

If I were keeping this I'd lower it about 1-1.5" with some performance springs, just to even out the ride, reduce the wheel well spacing and make the car look a bit more assertive but still with a tasteful stock EV aesthetic.

The body is totally fine under the wrap too, but I guess it also offers some protection. I like this look much better.

Lowered the price to $18.500 considering the market, the mods, and what I've been offered through Shift and Vroom. :)

I envy folks living in places with robust new and used EV market. CA is a good 2000 miles from TN, so I can only wish you good luck on the sale. The black panels and rims make the car really sharp.

The prices for the dealer in Utah seem too low. Aren't they including the federal tax credit? $10k off msrp seems steep.

Thanks Jurgen!

Yeah SoCal is a good place in the States to be buying or selling EVs. The market is a bit soft for obvious reasons (new LEAF, new EVs, etc.) so hopefully I have this thing priced right now. Glad you like the panels and rims. Normally I would go with a +1 wheel size and a very tasteful lowering (performance springs) but this is an ideal situation for anyone wanting to return to stock wheels, or to continue with the mods. Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah, when they start including tax credits it messes with the perception of price. Even with this used LEAF, SoCal Edison will give a $1000 credit to anyone buying this car once they prove ownership. ;) Yes, used cars qualify!

--UPDATE-- Carvana.com is offering me $18,184 for this car. So, I'll probably roll with that, sell the car, sell the steel wheels separately to recoup the difference, and not having payments or insurance on a car for a while (I'm primarily a motorcyclist).

Well, ya snooze - ya lose.....prices there just went up a few thousand $ overnight but are still a great deal. I was (and am) seriously considering an update even though my 2017 S does everything I need.

But....the cars that dealer is advertising for sale have 4 cylinder engines!

Not from what I can tell. They did lower the "msrp" and discount by equal amounts. That is actually a very good thing because it reduces taxes.

I got with this dealer in Utah to inquire about the incentives priced into their Nissan Leafs. The salesman stated the price is if you lease. So, there you go.

I am trying to find a good buy on a 2018 to take advantage of the federal tax credit, but there are very few 2018s left and 2019s are priced where I have to consider the Bolt (sub $30k for the base Bolt + the better options). My parents bought a Bolt earlier this year. I think my Leaf is more refined, but the 60 kWh battery and active thermal management are hard to overlook. :)

What does that mean? The lease terms are based on that sales price or that is the total cost after the lease including the residual or ???

Seems like shady dealing but after all, it is a car dealership....

I don't think so. I was told in an email
New Car Internet prices are +TTLF. All rebates applied. Must Finance with NMAC, O.A.C. See Dealer for details.
