The above Renaults look, to me at least, like they were played with via a distorting app. I half expected to see dog ears on them. As for the 500 styling, it just makes Bubble Cars look better to me.

Heh. The https://www.renault.fr/vehicules/vehicules-particuliers/talisman.html looks ok to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lLmLAsTSgQ was a summary of the intro w/Carlos Ghosn doing the unveil.

The movie Children of Men had some odd looking Renaults in it: https://www.imcdb.org/m206634.html like the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Avantime and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Mégane#Mégane_II_(2002–2009).

I wonder if it this deal will be resurrected or if FCA will be looking for other suitors?

Renault-Nissan alliance crumbles with Carlos Ghosn gone

For those that weren't aware, besides plenty of sharing (e.g. platforms, engines, etc.) in some cases, Nissans were built in the same plant as Renaults like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJDlPwVJ9Sc. More details at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCOWWEu1QLk.

And, previously, the Renault Samsung Motors plant in South Korea also built Nissan Rogues: https://media.group.renault.com/global/en-gb/renault-samsung-motors/media/pressreleases/62390/renault-samsung-motors-exporte-le-nissan-rogue-vers-lamerique-du-nord1.

 Nissan to Report 90% Plunge in Profit, Report Says
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-07-24/nissan-to-report-90-plunge-in-profit-nikkei-says
Nissan Motor Co. said a media report that the company’s operating profit dropped about 90% last quarter was “broadly accurate,” in the latest indication that pressure is building for Chief Executive Officer Hiroto Saikawa to step up efforts to turn around the automaker.

Was worse than that. :(

Nissan will cut 12,500 jobs after its profits plunged 99%
https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/25/business/nissan-job-cuts-earnings/index.html

I haven't read the verbiage of Nissan's filings, but some of the other coverage seemed to blame it on Ghosn... sure, blame it on the previous guy rather than the current CEO. Seems like Ghosn handed over the Nissan CEO reigns over to Saikawa in April 2017: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2017/02/23/business/corporate-business/ghosn-taps-veteran-nissan-exec-saikawa-replace-ceo/.

Good luck getting any foreigner to join as CEO after what happened to Ghosn. In fact, I think there would be quite a few potential candidates even in Japan who might become fearful and decline.

They should just hire the best in the business, Carlos.
Indeed. Ghosn did one hell of a job turning around the company and then the scandal happened, out of the blue. Whether the allegations are true or not will be interesting….

If it were true, it still makes me wonder how such a large company which must have an army of lawyers and accountants could allow it to happen. Or, if they turned a blind eye to it until some folks thought the time was right to strike (e.g. fear of a Renault Nissan merger so that Nissan could never free themselves of their Renault masters).

Indeed, esp. foreigners given what's happened to Carlos Ghosn.

It seems like they need someone adept at turnarounds like a Carlos Ghosn again.

This was in the news the other day but the original articles were behind a paywall. Not sure if this happened.
https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2019/10/nissans-management-problem/
On Tuesday, a subset of Nissan’s board intends to request access to a list of 80 Nissan employees suspected of aiding former Chairman Carlos Ghosn in his alleged financial malfeasance. Assembled by Nissan’s former audit chief, Christina Murray, and company, the document compiles actions taken by staffers believed to have assisted Ghosn directly or attempted to impede the resulting investigations.

Nissan on gradual recovery path, incoming CEO Uchida tells staff
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nissan-recovery-path-incoming-ceo-094642351.html
In picking Uchida as the new global head of Nissan, the company's board has chosen an executive known internally for close ties to top shareholder Renault and for a frank, straight-talking manner that has marked him as an outsider.

According to one long-time associate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Uchida is known for his unflagging work ethic and relentless focus on cost control. The source described Uchida as direct and to the point in conversations, a "foreigner with a Japanese face".

Uchida joined the car maker mid-career in 2003, a rarity in a country where top executives usually spend their entire working lives at the same company.
