So board members, do we thing that the ChaoJi standard will have much legs in the US. 900 Kilowatt standard. Do we think it will be backward compatible with the existing Chademo standard and plug type?

I know details are to come next year.

FYI, I wrote an article about this today that gives a few more details.

Joint China and Japan ChaoJi project works towards “CHAdeMO 3.0”

A megawatt? Holy carp!

I guess far more interesting than the plug's capability is how such stations would be supplied with power. Direct feed would not seem to be widely deployable. Some form of onsite storage then?

CHAdeMO 3.0 released: the first publication of ChaoJi, the new plug harmonised with China’s GB/T
https://www.chademo.com/chademo-3-0-released/
On 24 April 2020, CHAdeMO Association has released the latest CHAdeMO protocol (CHAdeMO 3.0) to its Regular members, specifying the requirements for designing the next-generation CHAdeMO chargers (“technical paper”), using the brand-new, identical plug with China’s GB/T protocol, allowing for maximum current of 600A.

Very exciting.

It will be interesting if next year, when actual installations start going in, whether this causes the next tide change in charging. If they can adaptor it to be compatible with Chademo 1/2, CCS, and Tesla (via Chademo), you could have a winner.

Until then, guessing we will see the dual handle CCS/Chademo DC stations continue to be the most popular.

Good news is it looks like there is still momentum. Bad news is that it looks like this is still 2-3 years from having active ChaoJi chargers deployed.

It will be interesting if Xpeng and Toyota stick with Chademo in Europe as is being reported. Even more interesting is if Xpeng comes to the US with Chademo.
