IEVS: Remember The Solar Road In France? It Was A Disaster

Wed Aug 14, 2019 5:23 pm

I know we've had threads discussing such projects but I couldn't find any, so started this one. Discusses three roads, in France, Idaho and the Netherlands - the first two are failures and the last, used used only by bicycles, is a success.

So in finding excuses, we blamed shoddy installations? Does the video provide more details? (I rarely watch them if text is available)

If two failed and one had better than expected results, maybe we need to look at the workmanship and planning on each project before we discount the idea.

"Finding excuses" for what, exactly? Not implementing a terrible idea on a large scale?

Unless the solar roadway was lower cost and held up better than asphalt it was doomed from the start.
Most knew this in advance right?
1 bar lost at 21,451 miles, 16 months.
2 bar lost at 35,339 miles, 25 months.
LEAF traded at 45,400 miles for a RAV4-EV
RAV4 traded in for I-Pace Dec 2018

What’s worse is more places are trying to double down on this nonsense
