Electrify America Network

Here's WetEV's "Coming Soon" list, current as of 2/29/20. At the end of February there were 409 sites open of which 11 opened in February, and 66 "Coming Soon" on the map. Of the latter, 11 were in the DC to Mass. corridor, 4 each were in Oregon and Washington, 1 was in Arizona, and the remaining 46 were in California.

Makes you wonder what else is in the works we don't know about. This is located about 6.8 miles from my house (more or less) so yeah, pretty sure its EA but then again, the EA stickers on the machine were a bit of a giveaway.

Okay, thanks. I've added the site to WetEV's list. EA increased the total number of "Coming Soon" sites from 66 to 72 (now 71 with the opening of Oakland) a few days ago, but I didn't attempt to track them down, and maybe they haven't added some or all of those to the map yet. The really critical ones are those needed to complete I-10/40/70/80, and except for I-10 those routes still don't have have anything shown in the remaining gaps. I point this lack out to them every few months, but so far all I've got back is noncommittal boilerplate.

Per WetEV, one Hwy site is open: Cabazon, CA (I-10 ex. 103/104, 3/1/0).

Odd that they added it on a Sunday, and for some reason the count of "Coming Soon" sites dropped two, to 69. It's 27 miles to the EA site in Riverside via S.R. 60, 47 to the site in Ontario via I-10, 39 to the site in Indio via I-10, 44 miles to the site in Murrieta via S.R. 79, and 65 to the site in Hesperia via I-10/215/15.

Aside from boosting density and adding redundancy, this site makes it fairly easy to do the 138 mile loop through Joshua Tree from 29 Palms down to I-10 and then back to Indio.

The number of "Coming Soon" sites has bounced up to 76 from 69 yesterday. Among the new sites shown are three in Alabama, two (Saraland and Greenville) on I-65 and one (Auburn) on I-85; one in NM (Tucumcari) on I-40 at last (still need to add Santa Rosa); one in Illinois (Villa Park) on S.R. 63; one in California (Sonoma) on S.R. 12. Not sure where the other one is although it's in SoCal, and I added a bunch of sites to WetEV's list in that area that had been added but I hadn't tracked down before.

I'm guessing the one in IL and maybe Sonoma will be urban. Once Tucumcari opens it will make it possible but not practical to reach Albuquerque or vice versa, as it's 173 miles.

I've added all the above to WetEV's list.

The number of "Coming Soon" sites has jumped to 87, including some much needed ones on existing routes and some expansions.

I-8 gets a site in Dateland, AZ, shortening the 178 mile gap between Yuma and Casa Grande to legs of 66 & 112 miles.

I-70 finally gets the obvious site in Green River, UT, to shorten the 225 mile gap between Richfield, UT and Grand Junction, CO to legs of 126 and 100 miles. Hopefully, a site on I-80 in Wendover, UT ( or W. Wendover, NV) will also soon appear to make Reno-SLC practical. California may not be cut off from states to the east much longer.

In addition, there are two more sites in Alabama (Oxford on I-20, and Athens on I-65) and two more in Georgia (Stockbridge on I-75, and Peachtree City on S.R. 54/74), and one In Annapolis, MD (U.S. 50). There's also four more in Cal: Rohnert Park (U.S. 101), Fresno (S.R. 99), Palm Springs (S.R. 111B) and Rosemead (Btwn. I-10/S.R. 60 & 164). I've added all of these to the list.

Las Vegas); 1 in AZ (Gilbert); 2 in IL (Bloomingdale, Oak Park); 1 in GA (Marietta); 2 in FL (Florida City, Davenport); 2 in VA (Fredericksburg, Sterling replacing the previous location); 1 in PA (Allentown).

The missing site is the site in Olympia that Dave told us about before, and which I'd previously added to the list. All of the above have been added to WetEV's list.

Check again. Olympia listed sometime between Monday and this morning. Sadly, the ENTIRE Olympic Peninsula is still ignored by BOTH EA and EVgo.

Check again. Olympia listed sometime between Monday and this morning. Sadly, the ENTIRE Olympic Peninsula is still ignored by BOTH EA and EVgo.

I wasn't clear - I know it was added to EA's map and list as "Coming Soon" yesterday, I meant that I'd already added it to our list prior to yesterday, based on your report and your Plugshare pics, which is why I noted it separately from the others, and the total of "new' sites I mentioned was 20 rather than 21. Clear (as mud) now?

. . . OK, so how much of a difference will this make? It's significant. If a Kona Electric driver in California was on a long drive and needed to charge for 45 minutes, under the current Electrify America Pass Plan they would pay $31.05 for the electricity (45 x $.69). If they had the Electrify America Pass plan without the $4.00 per month fee of the Pass Plus plan, they then would be charged an additional $1.00 session fee making the total cost $32.05 for roughly 40 to 45 kWh of electricity, depending on the charging conditions. That's much more than gasoline costs.

With the new Hyundai Select Plan, that same charging session will cost $15.75 (45 x $.35). There's no $1.00 session fee and Electrify America is waiving the $4.00 Pass Plus monthly fee, so there's no additional costs, just $.35 per minute nationwide. Unlike the regular plans, there's no need to check the pricing in your specific state, it's all the same with the Hyundai Select Plan.

Here are the different costs a Hyundai Kona Electric owner would pay in California for a 45-minute charging session based on plan:

• Electrify America Pass: $31.05 plus $1.00 session fee: $32.05
  Electrify America Pass Plus Plan: $22.50 (plus a $4.00 monthly charge)
  Hyundai Select Plan: $15.75

Below is a notification that Electrify America is sending out to Kona Electric owners.

• "The Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric models have unique DC charging characteristics, and as such, we’ve created the Hyundai Select Plan designed specifically for these models.
  
  We are offering discounted per-minute charging from our 1–125 kW power level cost for Hyundai Kona Electric or Ioniq Electric drivers, as well as no session fees, and no subscription fee.
  
  The Hyundai Select Plan can only be activated via our mobile APP. To enroll in the Hyundai Select Plan: download the Electrify America app, select “Premium offers," choose the “Hyundai Select” plan, enter your EV’s VIN, then enter the “HSCharging” enrollment code.
  
  This program was created for Hyundai’s current Electric Vehicles, specifically, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric and the Hyundai Kona Electric.
  
  We developed this price to be specifically based on the charging profile of current Hyundai Electric Vehicles. Our Tier 1 pricing was developed for EVs that charge at lower power.
  
  The Hyundai Select premium offer pricing is a bit higher cost than the 1-75 kW power level cost because it was developed specifically based on the charging profile of current Hyundai Electric Vehicles. Our 1-75 kW power level pricing was developed for EVs that charge at lower power.
  
  In collaboration with Hyundai Motor America, we are offering no session fees and no subscription fees, as well as 35 cents per minute for Electrify America DC Fast Charging nationally.
  
  The Hyundai Select Plan is currently only available in the United States.

  If you’re already an Electrify America Pass+ member, you may wish to downgrade to an Electrify America Pass plan when enrolling in the Hyundai Select Plan to avoid the monthly Pass+ member fee. The monthly Pass+ member fee is not applied for Hyundai Kona Electric or Ioniq Electric drivers when they’re signed up on the Hyundai Select Plan.
  
  We’ll be announcing something for Kia Niro EV drivers very soon."

Did you notice that last line in the announcement? Yes, Kia Niro owners will also be getting some relief soon. They experience the same problem as Hyundai Kona Electric owners as the vehicles share many of the same components and charging profiles. We'll be sure to let you know once we have information about that plan.

What are your thoughts on this "solution"? We're happy to see this finally getting addressed. Back in January when we met with Electrify America's CEO Giovanni Palazzo and COO Brendan Jones, I asked the duo about this issue and was promised a solution was in the works. However, it seems to us that Electrify America was punting a bit on this and pushing the blame on Hyundai and the Kona for signaling that it can accept more power than it really can.

I wondered why they couldn't just put the Kona and Niro in tier 1 where they really belong and that still isn't happening. With this Hyundai Select plan, Kona owners will pay significantly less. However, in our opinion, they should be placed in tier 1, and pay even less. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Had an EA charger give the error "VEHICLE_JINSIGNAL_REMOVED" earlier today. Whatever that means, a charger restart didn't help - but the car charged fine at an EVgo station. :roll:

They rebooted the station to no avail, so they credited my account with a comp charging session and I left.
