Good! I just rewatched the last ep of STD, and it made me long to see more of the other, non-Milennial, sane crew. I can definitely wait longer for more STD, but I assume that it will debut its 3rd season before STSNW even films - if it ever films...

Season 3 of ST:D is in post-production remotely.

https://trekmovie.com/2020/05/02/wilson-cruz-asks-for-patience-as-star-trek-discovery-season-3-post-production-continues-remotely/

Much (most?) of the TV and film industry has been affected by lockdowns (e.g. may not be allowed to go to work, can't be necessarily socially distanced or wearing masks while acting, voice actors doing dubs for other languages may not be able to go to the studio or (in some countries) be with other voice actors while recording, etc.)

The above also touches upon a problem w/not being able to have an orchestra for the music. It mentions a "jigsaw" technique that unfortunately is more complicated and required more time & work.

I don't see why some sort of protected, spaced, well-ventilated orchestra isn't possible.
That's going to be a problem. I'm not sure where they perform now, but I found http://jeffrusso.com/tag/star-trek-discovery/. What other acoustically acceptable facility can they find that isn't subject to lockdown?

The spread in a restaurant as documented in https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=582705#p582705 is pretty scary.

https://sonicw.fandom.com/wiki/Eastwood_Scoring_Stage is in Burbank that is in Los Angeles County. I glanced thru http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/coronavirus/docs/HOO/HOO_Safer_at_Home_Order_for_Control_of_COVID_20200513.pdf and looking at pages 7 thru 10, it's similar to our order https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/order-health-officer-050420.aspx. If it's not an essential business then it can't operate. And, if it's not considered an essential activity, a person can't leave to go perform that activity.

About the only way I could see it working is if they go perform in some place that isn't locked down. But then there's the extra cost and time overhead + fear of catching COVID-19 during travel and spreading it to others while in that other place. The only other way is to depend on musicians who are already in a place that isn't locked down. But, enough of them need to be willing to show up.

Ok, then: in the Star Wars arcade video game, there are ten early levels in which you learn to navigate/avoid/shoot various architectural features of the Death Star. Then, starting with Level 11, the trench in which the difficult portion of the level takes place is constructed randomly from segments of the first 10 trenches. Composers - especially TV composers - do much the same thing, by constructing scene music from bits and pieces of their other compositions. Characters even get recurring thematic identities in the music (something I dislike).

Yes, fear not, I do have a point.

It should be possible for whoever composes the music for television series to use a program to 'compose' episode music from a library of phrases and moods that have already been used on the show. This would greatly reduce the role of the musicians, but they could still be employed individually to record tracks that would be blended into something that has at least a nodding acquaintance with orchestral music. Would it be as good as the way it's been done until now? No. Would this still be music for a TV show? Yes, indeed. If you listen to the scene music on the original ST, it is made up of a not very large number of phrases and passages, reassembled to suit the episode. It got expanded over the run of the series, the best example being the chase music from "Doomsday Machine," which afterwards was used for just about every scene involving a chase or battle...

Agree w/what you mentioned about TOS.

That said, funny enough, this popped up in my FB feed less than an hour ago.

Jeff Russo Confirms Remote Recording Of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 3 Score Has Begun

I wonder if there will be cumulative "errors" from musicians playing along with previous recordings from other musicians, and if they may have to do just a little computer-assisted shifting and blending...

Maybe a release later in the Summer for STD is best. By then I'll be ready and willing for anything new. I just can't watch Stargate: Atlantis or Stargate: Universe another time. I can't. I'll watch Deep Space 9 first, I swear...

All musicians listen to the same recording while playing to reduce time errors between recordings.
I've done a bit of this sort of stuff. I found it easier to get multiple takes than post processing. Cut and paste as needed.

For anyone who wishes to watch Picard, Disco or Lower Decks, as I wrote at https://www.tivocommunity.com/community/index.php?threads/cbs-all-access.521945/page-8#post-12104289, I received an email with a code MORE for a free month. It may only work for returning subscribers. Someone else posted PLAY for a free month (for new subs?).

special limited promotional run

Can anyone translate this? One ep? A few eps? I'm going to try to get my housemate to watch it with me, sort of like MST3K. There may be a drinking game in the offing, although anything stronger than beer wold likely be dangerous with that show.

Sounds like they will just air the entire first season on CBS (as opposed to the 1st ep that they did at the beginning) And, that they may not do it normally/again in the future or do so for future seasons...
