Hairstylist with COVID-19 served 84 clients while symptomatic, Missouri officials say

Apparently everyone wore a mask. It will be a test of how well masks work.

Saw a statistic a couple of days ago. Don't know how true it is, but the bottom line:

Infected person doesn't wear a mask but the other person does. Chance of infection = 70%
Infected person wears mask but the other person doesn't. Chance of infection = 5%
Both people wear masks. Chance of infection = 1.5%

Even before this, I was a firm believer that everyone should wear a mask.

It's been pointed out that Sweden has more COVID-19 deaths than nearby Norway, Finland and Denmark. You can see they are way worse in COVID-19 deaths per 1 million at https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ than those countries, if you sort by that. Right now on that metric it's:
Sweden 291
Denmark 87
Finland 45
Norway 40

Sweden's mortality rate per 1m people is double that of the US. Also, and you already posted that figure, the rate of those with antibodies is only 7.3%.

I love Sweden (not as much as Norway) but the herd immunity gambit there is a complete and utter failure.

CDC tracks cluster of coronavirus cases in rural Arkansas to church, raising alarm on religious gatherings
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/19/cdc-tracks-cluster-of-coronavirus-cases-in-rural-arkansas-to-church-raising-alarm-on-religious-gatherings.html
At the Arkansas church, the pastor and his wife were the first two confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the county of about 25,000, the CDC says. Officials from the Arkansas Department of Health began an investigation on March 16 to understand the source of transmission and to identify others who might have been exposed.

The investigation traced the two infections to a three-day children’s event held at the church between March 6 and March 8 and a Bible study group held on March 11.

The CDC didn’t identify the church, but the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported March 23 that 34 members of the First Assemblies of God Church in Greers Ferry who attended a children’s event there tested positive for the virus.

The CDC study said 92 attendees were contacted by health officials. Of those, 45 people were tested for Covid-19, 35 of those tests were positive and three of the people died. Asymptomatic attendees were not “routinely tested,” the CDC said.

Spread of the virus within this event also leaked into the broader community, the CDC researchers said. At least 26 people who reported contact with attendees of the church tested positive for Covid-19 and one of them died, the researchers said.

Yet Dump wants to do this:
Trump declares churches ‘essential,’ calls on them to reopen
https://apnews.com/8a34b6599602dbd751f2c1fcb93387fe
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday labeled churches and other houses of worship as “essential” and called on governors nationwide to let them reopen this weekend even though some areas remain under coronavirus lockdown.

The president threatened to “override” governors who defy him, but it was unclear what authority he has to do so.
I guess he's clueless about the above, the Skagit County choir (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6919e6.htm) and the Shincheonji "cult" church in South Korea?

They should continue to do remote services or do it with social distancing in parking lots, as some have done.

An interesting alernative is to allow services, but only with face masks and with limits to density of people. This is already happening in NY. NY allows 10 people to gather, as long as masks are worn and social distancing is followed. Ten seems to be a key number in Judaism and daily morning services have resumed. There must be ten for a religious reason (ask someone Jewish, I'm not), and there can be no more than ten according to the NY department of health. In a few months we should know how safe this is.

https://nypost.com/2020/05/20/religious-services-of-up-to-10-people-can-resume-thursday-in-ny/

I'd have more respect for Trump's declaration if included masks, distancing requirements and some sort of size and/or distance limit. In a huge building, keeping every family group 6 feet or more distant would seem realistic, and should keep it fairly safe. Culture war just telling the religious that they are special and don't need to stay safe is just going to kill people.

i wasn't looking for this exactly, but it seems oddly very relevant.

http://www.bishoprickel.com/blog/a-pissing-section-in-the-pool

“A Pissing Section in the Pool.” That is what he said. I don’t even remember what news program and what epidemiologist, as I am in the Zoom/News blur of pandemic life, but I very much remember his answer. The reporter asked the epidemiologist, “with no federal coordinated response, and some governors defying guidelines for reopening, do you think this uncoordinated approach will work?” The epidemiologist just looked back at the camera and said, “does a pissing section in the pool work?”

And like a Damascus road experience I was suddenly able to see in a way I had not before. You may be wondering where I am going with this, and those of you that hound me about “staying out of politics” or “staying in my lane” which usually is translated really to, staying out of YOUR politics, or out of YOUR lane, I am going to look at this theologically, the Church, my lane.

Sounds like 1.5 meters or 4.5 feet isn't enough. I haven't seen any information on mask usage.

Looks like for people under 60 are about as likely to die from trump virus as flu.
Except for children under 18, only in the US 12 have died, normally it does almost nothing to them.
The media doesn't like talking about it so numbers aren't they easy to find but it looks like overall around half of trump virus deaths nation wide since the begining have been nursing home residents, but more recently up to 70 to 80% of deaths in PA for example have been in nursing homes.
Shudding down the entire country for this was stupid, not protecting nursing homes better and going after people who wanted to keep their small business going was vile. Unless that business catered to the elderly.

MWalsh might be right.

What a bunch of garbage. On another forum, someone tried to make the same claim about the 64 and under age group and pointed to https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109867/coronavirus-death-rates-by-age-new-york-city/. Well, look at those numbers for those 64 and under vs. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2017-2018.htm "Table 2: Estimated rates of influenza-associated disease outcomes, per 100,000, by age group — United States, 2017-2018 influenza season".

Just because those under 18 have a minimal chance of dying doesn't mean that they can't spread it to others in public and in their own household. Before my county locked down on March 17 there were several threads in my Nextdoor neighborhood with people angry at the school district for not shutting down a local elementary school. Turns out (I think the thread got deleted), three fathers got infected and one of them died.

What if someone in the household has someone in a higher risk age group like a grandparent(s) or older relatives or someone w/a comorbidity?

As for nursing homes, the staff still needs to come and go and at the very minimum perform essential tasks (e.g. grocery shopping) and they can get infected from that besides from residents.

But you must remember that is the mindset of these assholes. If we would have done nothing how many millions would have died? They don't understand that by locking down we kept the numbers as low as they are. They also do not give a **** about anyone but themselves and the asshole in the White House that could have saved 1000s of lives if he would have listened to people with actual brains ie scientists.

4 brave souls lost their lives in Benghazi and those on the right went apoplectic. Where is the outrage when the utter incompetence of this administration is responsible for the deaths of thousands.

Mike I do believe we are feeding the troll. He just loves him some Fox and OANN. I yell at anyone who does not wear mask in public. They have no idea if the are asymptomatic or not. What gives them the right to put my health in jeopardy?

^^^
The scary part is the chart "Taking steps to respond" at https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/20/voters-divided-over-coronavirus-cnbcchange-research-poll-finds.html (which I posted earlier) about 2/3 of the way down (before the article "expands"/gains more content). 93% of one group says they're wearing a face mask in public. Another only 44%. Look at all the other mitigations and the response rate differences.

Gee... I wonder where one group got its misinformation from? Will it take a boatload of deaths and/or serious illness affecting a family member or friends for them to get a clue?

The projections originally said a million or 2 would die with all the shutdown and hide under your bed BS.

No one worried about kids spreading swine flu to each other and elderly and swine flu was far more deadly to kids than trump virus.

I wear a mask for delicate snow flakes. I would hate to have to defend my self against some mentally ill person getting in my face.

18-44, Covid 19/100,000 18-49 Flu 2/100,000 Roughly 10 X as much risk.

That's likely understated. There are increased strokes, kidney disease, assorted blood clots and heart attacks that seem caused by Covid-19. Many undiagnosed as such.

My 51 year old cousin died of a heart attack in late February. No proof, as no test for coronavirus was given. For lots of reasons the family suspects Covid-19.

Almost 100,000 now.

Reputable source of this?

The projections of millions of deaths in the US from COVID-19 was if there was no lockdown and no social distancing.

7 states never shutdown, everyone kept saying "they'll be sorry", but to turns out they're fine.
I know places like NYC and parts of jersey never had a chance since social distancing is impossible by design.

I really don't think anyone should have to do x,y or z to make someone else feel safe. If you live in a big city and don't feel safe, well that's your fault for living there. Did someone make you to live there by force or threat of force?
You are responsible for your own personal safety, no one else.

Oh and at what point are "they going to be sorry they didn't"? I was hearing that alot 6 weeks ago, not a peep any more.
What are those 7? Are the ones at https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/13/politics/asa-hutchison-arkansas-coronavirus/index.html what you had in mind?

As for "never shutdown", well, I went thru the list that I found at https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/13/politics/asa-hutchison-arkansas-coronavirus/index.html at https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/states-reopen-map-coronavirus.html. Even if they had no statewide stay-at-home-order, they all seemed to have shutdown all sorts of businesses (e.g. food and drink, retail, personal care (barbers, nail salons, etc.), gyms, etc.) And, some are still shut.

It's rather disingenuous and misleading to claim they didn't shut. Those 7 states shut many/most of the same businesses that others with SAH orders did. And, as Dave pointed out, some of those states were hit very badly due to infections at meat processing plants:

I was thinking Warren vs Washington DC.
The supreme court when it was firmly under liberal control upheld the ruling.
Yep sounds like russia.
If your understood what you were reading there you would know it refers to the collective, not the individual.
