Upgrade your Nissan LEAF Battery to a 40kWh or 62kWh Salvaged pack

Mon May 18, 2020 4:42 am

Hello All,

I've created a list of installers who can remove your old pack and replace it with a pack from a wrecked 2018 and up.

The list contains 16 installers as of 05-20-2020

Here's the URL for my list: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LEAFs/ (it's the pinned post of this group and is posted below)

Skim the list and find the place closest to you and call them, ask them what their rates are to upgrade your LEAF.

Here is a post of an individual who did the upgrade himself, I am not sure what his costs where at this time. (his name is Dale)

Here's Dale's photo album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tcVLm3SHCtozeLSa6

There is an outfit named EVRides LLC and they are quoting these prices:

Price includes installation and old battery in exchange

24kWh battery starting at $2500

30kWh battery starting at $4000

40kWh battery starting at $6000

62kWh battery starting at $8000

NISSAN LEAF BATTERY INSTALLERS:
Here’s the list so far for aftermarket and #DIY Nissan LEAF battery installers. Click their links and contact them. (If you or your company is doing installs then contact me so I can add your name below) (16 installers as of 5-20-2020) #KEEP_CHECKING_THIS_POST_AS_I_WILL_ADD_MORE_INSTALLERS_TO_IT.

One of their customers sent me this: I just had them recondition my 2011 SL...It was at 7 bars..and they got me up 12 or 90 percent...and my range is almost double now...they said they changed out 10 modules in all...They charged me $2600 for this service...and told me that if I was not satisfied they would change out my battery with a Gen 2 for $1900 more....I am very satisfied with their work and what I got on the reconditioning..They have been involved with mostly Prius batteries for years now plus others.. so batteries they know..and are now getting into the Leaf thing. I think I was their 4th customer.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Battery)
Right now EV Works is sourcing their LEAF packs from salvage, auctions, etc. This means each pack currently coming in has a different cost which means I cannot give you a specific price for how much this is going to cost you to do this.

You could simply bring your own battery. Installation, testing, and software upgrade is $1999. They also offer all types of EV repairs, upgrades, etc. at $125 an hour.

Short video about 62kWh battery from 2019 Nissan Leaf S Plus. It is 2 inches thicker than other Nissan battery packs and 6 more bolts to hold it in place.

Great idea! Especially the cost guidelines.
I have subscribed to this thread and will add a shop name in Dallas if/when they actually perform an upgrade (I may be the guinea pig).

Thanks, I have emailed all the installers and I asked them to come here and make accounts and say hello. This way people can ask all the questions they want.

How is the 380 mile range Leaf order coming along, Sal? I'm in touch with a cell supplier that could deliver enough batteries for that amount of range for just under $10k, but somebody would have to actually assemble them into a pack ;)

Oh, and it would weigh around 420 kg.

He updated his web page to say "They [Fenix] tell me I should get my new battery by June 2020" (changed from "end of 2019"). If Fenix delivers anything next month it certainly won't have 380 miles of range.
LEAF '13 SL+Prem (mfg 12/13, leased 4/14, bought 5/17, sold 11/18) 34K mi, AHr 58, SOH 87%
Tesla S 75D (3/17)
Tesla X 100D (12/18)
93K 100% BEV miles since '14
ICE free since '18

You’ll have to ask Fenix. From the time I heard the name Fenix to now I moved 15 miles closer to NYC and my clients. So, my commute is 3 to 28 miles round trip now. It used to be 58 miles.

I will NEVER put $10,000 into my 2013 LEAF.

It’s not going to happen.

With all my connections on FB I sent 250+ customers to Fenix. They tell me they will give me their battery for FREE for 250 months.

I told them I want 48kWh for 125 months for FREE. They said OK. If they will fulfill that order I will not say no. Especially if it’s FREE to me.

I really don’t need 380 miles. I need 200.

My next Vehicle that I purchase will be a Tesla CyberTruck. That’s where the $10,000 is going.

But, I will keep the LEAF. Even with my heavily degraded battery, because I live 3.5 miles from midtown NYC and the CT is not going to be fun or inexpensive to park in NYC. When I need to go to NYC I will take the LEAF.

So, at the end of the day, I don’t care about 380 miles of range. I’ll use my CT for long distance driving.

As of right now Fenix is scheduled to bid on a 62 LEAF that’s wrecked. If they win that auction they will be giving me the battery.

That will cost me nothing and I might still get their battery in the future.

From March 1st 2020 to today I’ve driven 46 miles. Don’t need 380 miles range.
