I hate this kind of stuff. In 4 plus years we didn’t have much interaction with our dealer service centre as the car was completely trouble free other than a couple technical bulletin recall things. They treated us well in Kelowna. But it seems the Vancouver island dealerships need some attitude changes if they want to stay in the game. Any way. Read the story and shake your head at the horrible business practices of the Vancouver Island leaf dealers. Vancouver island has the highest concentration of Nissan Leafs in Canada. Vancouver island is the location of the BC Capitol city of Victoria.

I saw that same article, but CBC doesn't allow comments on it.

On the off chance he visits here, this Vancouver EV repair shop is now doing battery pack swaps/upgrades.

My guess would be at least $8k CAD for a replacement 40kWh pack, likely more.

I don't think I'd do an upgrade at that price, too risky that some major HV component fails as a LEAF ages. I'd more likely import a 2018 LEAF from Washington, in his shoes.

When my LEAF no longer gives me enough range, I'll likely pay Precision Auto to strip down the original pack and sell off the cells and other parts on eBay.

Sad, but right now these LEAFs are disposable, but at least the packs can have a second life.

I don’t know what I would do. Our 2016 SV was a fantastic car. Our needs changed so we sold it. But if things hadn’t changed and the 8 or 9 year point arrived and we needed a second life I might do it. Hard to say. New cars are expensive.

Agreed, NEW cars are expensive and I wouldn't buy one for that reason alone.

However, a good deal on a USED LEAF is what I was referring to. Here are a few examples:

Pricing starts at $18K USD for an SV and $19k USD for an SL.

Westwood Honda, in Port Moody (BC, Canada), sells lots of used LEAFs that they import from the US and their cheapest listing right now on a 2018 SL is just under $30k CAD - that's almost $23k USD, a difference of $4K USD vs Washington prices.

I will look specifically for a 2018 SV (40 kWh pack) as I expect that, when I'm ready in a few more years, I can get one for $12K US. However, I would definitely time any purchase for when (if) the exchange rate is favorable.
