I have a 17 reg Nissan Leaf 30KW Tekna which at the moment has normal side mirrors. Does anyone know if i can upgrade to one of the newer mirrors with blind spot detection ? I assume that the newer mirrors with blind spot detection have to be powered so question is does the older leafs have power supply feed near mirrors that can be tapped onto by the new mirrors ?

Yes, that sounds like it would be a very difficult retrofit. My sister's Mazda with BSM has the proximity sensors located above and behind the rear wheel openings. Only the little warning indicator lights are in the side mirrors.

Battery capacity is measured in kWh, not "KW".

I am fairly sure that much if not most of the necessary hardware resides away from the mirror itself.
Yep.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10139082-9999.pdf is an example of where you'd find the detection hardware on a Bolt.

Ditto for '16 Prius as to where the sensors are:

I retrofitted my car with blind spot detection...
