Yes, you can add new posts with "+1" and such, but that's not the same as liking a post. I particular like the multiple options available on teslamotorsclub.com:

resulting in the displays like this at the bottom of a post:

On the other hand.....sites like Stack Overflow operate by users voting posts up or down. Eventually, the best answers to questions rise to the top while poor answers are shown to be faulty. Also, on some other forums I (and others) use like to do a +1 without having to add another post to a thread.

I can understand the potential advantage in a technical forum, but for the most part I find the concept to be too much of an invitation to manipulators. And our social media landscape is being manipulated to High Heaven.
