A new Chromecast w/remote recently came out (https://www.theverge.com/21495609/google-chromecast-2020-review-streaming-remote-control). It's $50 but the round $30 one (https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast) that came out in Q4 2018 is still available.

There's a good deal at https://store.google.com/config/chromecast_google_tv where if you get the $90 version, it comes with 6 months of Netflix 2-stream subscription (current value $77.94). That version was OOS for awhile and is finally back in stock. I ordered one but the ETA won't be until end of October.

Discuss Chromecast here...

I have the little disc with VERY limited remote on the phone. I would love a fast forward option. Any possibility of that or do I have to get the new one? FYI; mine was free with phone purchase.

At least for Netflix, yes. I can confirm the d-pad on the remote you do reverse/rewind, pause and FF.

From my limited time w/it seems like for Netflix, it's running their TV UI: what you'd find on a modern set top "box" like a Roku Ultra or very recent smart TV. There's signing into the Netflix app (didn't exist on older Chromecasts) and a different post-play (after an episode ended) experience than previous Chromecasts.

So basically we are limited by the capabilities of the streaming service. That makes sense. I don't use Netflix on my chromecast because its already on the TV

Looking forward to your review. Wonder when it will upgrade to latest Android.
Sorry. Probably won't see a review from me. There are many in the press. I will say that as a Netflix device, it's quite fast (e.g. in terms of streams starting, ff/rew, switching audio and subtitles).

I got one quickly because it's directly related to my work. I'll mainly be using it for that. It's right now hooked up to an HDMI switchbox w/other stuff to a 10" "TV"/monitor from work, as I don't have much desk space and it's just for testing.

I ordered the $90 one for myself w/the 6 months of Netflix included as an cheap upgrade from my 2nd gen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromecast#Second_generation). It won't show up until end of October. There was actually another version black USB-flash drive like version but before the round 2nd gen that was supposedly a little faster than the original.

I already have enough means to watching streaming services here (e.g. Roku 3, Roku Ultra for work, Apple TV 4K, Chromecasts spanning several gens (some for work) + 2 game consoles). :)

YouTube Premium members can get Stadia Premiere Edition for free
That's a $99 bundle including a Chromecast Ultra and gamepad

https://www.engadget.com/youtube-premium-free-stadia-chromecast-controller-180316212.html
Google has quietly launched a killer deal for YouTube Premium members in the US and UK: free access to Stadia Premiere Edition, a $99 bundle that includes a Chromecast Ultra and Stadia Controller. Anyone with an active YouTube Premium subscription can claim a Stadia Premiere bundle here, and the only caveat is you’ll have to sign up for a free month of Stadia Pro. This Stadia Pro trial is cancelable at any time, and you’ll still get the hardware.
I wonder if they're just trying to clear out old hardware?

Google Chromecast (3rd Gen, Black or White) for $19

From the pics, these should be the latest gen version w/o a remote and non-4K (which was the Ultra).
