FWIW. I encountered a lady driving a '16 deep blue pearl LEAF in Cameron Park CA on Monday, May 9.
She claims that Folsom Lake Nissan replaced the traction battery for free.
Apparently that LEAF had failed three times while driving on nearby roads.
The last time it "died" was on Highway 50.
She stated that she and her husband had purchased the LEAF used.
She also mentioned that they had purchased and "extended service" package.
The traction battery was replaced with a 40kWh battery according to the driver.
She was adamant that the replacement was the 40.
And that the replacement was at no cost to the owners!
Now.... WTF????
How was this claimed replacement managed for free?
Details are lacking.
Does anyone have further info?
Has this situation been repeated elsewhere?
I have two '11 LEAFs.
Both are at 6 capacity bars.
I can manage 35 miles on either one by using LSP.
Thank you.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10171230-0001.pdf - due to the 30 kWh pack being discontinued, many folks who've needed warranty replacements of 30 kWh packs have received 40 kWh packs.

There was recently a clueless guy on a Leaf FB group who bought a '16 or '17 Leaf SV or SL from Carmax (IIRC) in So Cal and needed to drive it hundreds of miles north (I think to the Marin area). He was so clueless that he actually was using L2 EVSEs (!) instead of CHAdeMO. For some dumb reason, he wanted was insisting on taking highway 101 instead of 99 which has WAY more charging choices. He didn't plan properly (didn't use ABRP and I think didn't use Plugshare either). He said that he "planned" I think using Google Maps.

He didn't know anything about capacity bars and was wasting time posting about the GOM. It was down many bars and later we found out it hadn't had PC630 / NTB18-039 applied either (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10143139-9999.pdf https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10143483-9999.pdf).

He aborted and got Carmax to "fix it". He went down to So Cal again to try to drive it back up. He thought they replaced the pack but once he posted pics of his receipt, we concluded they only had PC630 applied. He reported it dying going up a steep hill. Eventually, I think he did make it to Nor Cal but ended up returning the car.

Welcome. There is a 5 year (sorry), 60,000 mile capacity warranty on the 24kwh batteries used on the 2011 - 2016 Leafs. There is also an 8 year battery defect warranty that was probably the reason for the battery replacement on that 2016 Leaf. The 2016 - 2017 30kwh batteries have a longer capacity warranty, and many of them have lost enough capacity to qualify for a new (now 40kwh) pack. I'm afraid, though, that your 2011 Leafs are long passed any warranty coverage.

Cwerdna, I don't see why you posted that anecdote - it isn't relevant here.

It relates because the clueless guy had a 30 kWh Leaf, it was way below 8 capacity bars pre-PC630 and post-update, it died while going up a steep hill, probably https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tejon_Pass. Dealer claims they found "nothing wrong", IIRC. It could've been any number of things but IIRC, he had no Leaf Spy so we couldn't see DTCs nor if some module/cell was weak and way out of balance...
