I still carry jumper cables. If the little lead acid under the LEAF's hood quits, your LEAF will not start. Just like an ICE car.

Yes, but hopefully they designed it to have the DC/DC converter keep it topped off with main pack power even if you left some lights on with the car "off".

And many of us have the little solar panel (SL) on the back that is supposed to keep the aux battery topped off.

Has anyone had their 12V battery in a Leaf go dead such that a jump start worked?

I was showing a friend the fake valve cover under the hood, and he suggested the purpose must be so you could have some fun with the guys at Jiffy Lube. I was a little tempted to take it in for an oil change just to watch. But I'm afraid they'd bring out an old oil pump to show me, and tell me it needs to be replaced for $300.

Let's add these, because every ICE car has them, and they are almost always expensive to replace:

EGR Valve
Oxygen sensor
Fuel injectors
Sparkplug wires
Gas filler cap
Emission control components (you can spend some big bucks on these, for labor)

The most expensive part to replace lately has been automatic transmissions, and there have been many failures recently.. in cars 3 to 10 year old.
