Left turn and design flaw?

Mon May 13, 2019 9:19 pm

I realized that the left frame of the windshield blocks my view of pedestrian when I make a left turn. I almost hit a pedestrian crossing the street as I was making a left turn last week. It was not until I almost hit him that I realized that he was there. Has anyone had this problem? How do you overcome it?

I have the 2011 model.

Thanks

Moving the driver's seat slightly forward or back should help.

This is a common problem on many newer cars due to the A-pillar width necessary to accomodate the airbags. It takes a conscious effort at first to "clear" that blind-spot by moving your head to either side before making that kind of turn. It will become second-nature after awhile.
I noticed you're still working with polymers.

Thick A-pillars have been discussed numerous times here like at viewtopic.php?t=13861 along w/other forums I"m on. It's not a Leaf-only thing.

The Gen III Prius has the same issue. I don't know if they corrected it with subsequent generations. I think it's also because of standards for roof strength being toughened.

That's it, basically no vertical A-pillar to provide support in a roll.
