Once, again I had to call Nissan about my 2015 Leaf not connecting to the app so I can get the AC running and cool down the interior before we get tot the car.

First I got told I had 2G connection, which I stopped her and said I got the updated a long time ago and was charged for it.

Then she said all 3G service was terminated by cell carriers in February and they are working on a solution but there is no ETA for the fix or how much it will cost.

If they knew this was coming, and there is no way they could not have... then why didnt they get a 4G unit in the works and have ready to distribute?

Ridiculous. Its always a problem with Nissan. My other cars (non Nissan) all communicate just fine.

Absolutely Nissan blew it and it was bizarre they weren't more forward looking in not having their 3G TCU support 4G/LTE.

However, Leaf isn't alone. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-safety/3g-wireless-network-shutdown-impact-on-car-safety-a2215482633/ has many examples of other affected cars.

You can restore this functionality in Gen1 Leafs by replacing the (existing) TCU with something called OVMS; there's a thread on it here (https://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=32715).
Moderators: you can pretty much refer every post with the word "3G" in the title to my thread.

"Nissan blew it?"

In what way? Not providing their own 3G network? This is the way of things and has been so FOREVER.

Gen Two's are on 4G. Gen Ones have an alternative solution which is a MUCH better deal than what Nissan provided.

So yeah it sucks that Betamax is now twice as expensive and nearly impossible to find but luckily, you don't have to work as hard.
