EVs Enhanced To Offer 16 Blade LFP Battery Packs For Nissan Leaf:

https://cleantechnica.com/2022/12/26/evs-enhanced-to-offer-16-blade-lfp-battery-packs-for-nissan-leaf/

"EVs Enhanced, a company in Christchurch, New Zealand, will introduce its 16 Blade battery, a complete replacement platform for the Nissan Leaf, beginning in March of 2023.

The 16 Blade battery uses an active thermal management system and has been designed to fit within the confines of the original Nissan battery pack enclosure.

The 16 Blade battery will be made available for all 24, 30, and 40 kWh Leaf models from 2011 through to the latest 2022 models.

Upgrades for Leafs originally fitted with a 62 kWh battery are not being pursued due to physical mounting differences.

The first model to receive 16 Blade support will be the 2013 onward 24 and 30 kWh Leafs, shortly followed by the 40kWh Leaf. Support for the original 2011-2012 model Leaf is planned to follow."

That was an interesting read. I'm looking forward to following along if people take up this offer.

There was one thing in the article that I did not think made sense: it said the cost would not be less than a Nissan 40 kWh pack replacement, and that was $11k (NZD ??). Perhaps they meant an OEM 24 kWh pack replacement ??

I sure would like to know how water cooling is engineered. I cannot even guess, so I'm skeptical.

So price is uncertain, and the 3 year warranty is definitely something to give pause.

+1 on sagebrush's question. New type of cells and active thermal management, combined with local garage? sounds like something that should be examined very closely before delivering a verdict.

Another point to mention -- these NZ folks are the ones (I'm reasonably sure) who exploited Dala's work without attribution.
That is not a great way to build trust

That sounds like a good battery concept.

Too many unanswered questions for now. I guess we'll have to follow along and see how it does over time in Kiwi country and the land of Oz.

I view this as a step in the right direction for the futue of EV's and the Leaf in general. Non structural pack EV's with easy to open and reseal pack shells are prime targets for upgrading to whatever the latest cell chemistry it that offers increased safety, energy density, cold weather performance. Personally, I'd like to see a big name company come along and offer pack exchanges with updated cells that you can swap at home or have shipped to your mechanic for a swap. This seems taylor made for a company like AAMCO or Pep Boys.

EV's Enhanced is the leading EV specialist company in NZ

Their product will be world class, and much better than what Nissan fitted as OEM

Price will be the killer. 40kWh for about NZ$20k (price yet to be announced)

I know the guys from EV's Enhanced, and I seriously doubt they would rip off intellectual property. The last thing a company would want for a world-first aftermarket EV battery pack is negative press. Maybe sagebrush should confirm with Dala before posting what appears to be heresay or gossip

I have no affiliation with EV's Enhanced. They are 1000km from where I live. I have done business with them (I purchased their battery pairing dongle) , and they have assisted me with various Leaf technical inquiries)
