Anyone in Georgia?

Hi,
I have been waiting since April of last year to order a Leaf in Georgia. I received the email yesterday stating that I'd be able to order next week. A couple of questions:
1. Anyone have any recommendations on Atlanta/North atlanta dealers? Did anyone talk pricing yet? I plan on calling around tomorrow.
2. Is there a time condition in terms of keeping the Leaf to receive the Georgia EV credit? Let's say I sold the Leaf after a year...would I have to return the Georgia credit? The only way I'd buy a Leaf now (with the increased 2012 pricing) is if I get that tax credit (and am able to keep it if i decide to sell it within a couple of years)!

I called around this morning and the sales people seem clueless. I'm waiting on a call back from Capitol City manager, but I'm thinking the best route is to go in to the dealerships and speak directly to the GM.

I registered last year in April myself.

I talked with the Nissan dealer in my home town a couple of weeks ago and I think I sparked some interest in the owner and sales people there. I learned after my visit there that they have made plans to attend the Drive a LEAF in Boston in a week.

I am from New Hampshire but will be relocating to Georgia soon. I drove over to Carriage Nissan in Gainesville yesterday. I spoke with a couple of people there. Carl E. seemed to be very interested but was admittedly a bit more in the dark than he felt comfortable with. I gave him the URL for this forum so he can get some of the great info that is presented here. I hope I gave them reason to get to know the LEAF. After all they will have to deal with real LEAF customers very soon!

I also found that Regal Nissan in Roswell is a LEAF certified dealer. I have not talked with them and won't be able to before I have to return to NH on Saturday.

The Lawrenceville Nissan dealer is not LEAF certified and I have read negative reviews for them anyway.

The California folks have recommended talking to the dealer before selecting one on their "Dashboard". I think many of them have negotiated price with dealers before selecting them this way they have a better idea of what the dealer is like before committing.

Once I am settled in North Georgia (real soon) I will be making arrangements to purchase my own LEAF. I CAN'T WAIT! Well I can but I am very excited about the prospect!

I live in Gwinnett and found out a little about dealers. First I was surprised to find out that dealers who show as Leaf certified don't have certified service departments yet. So we are driving our orphan Leaf carefully. I think that they may not be eligible for certification until sales open here. But I did have good interactions with a couple of dealers. Gwinnett Place has been pretty friendly and invited me over for a charge when I confessed that I didn't wait to order. Regal Nissan was my backup plan to recharge when I was driving the Leaf home from TN. They assured me I could use their charger at least until their service Dept closed at 9:00. (I wound up getting a tow home.)

It seems like the strategy would be the same here as elsewhere: make your reservation, then call around and discuss price before the Request a quote email comes. That way you have a presumed price and don't have to wait for the quote to expire if you don't like it.

Got my Alternative Fuel plate last week and will be applying for the GA tax credit next week!

Tax credit. $5000, I think. I'll let you know how it goes when the paperwork goes in. You apply, and submit the approved application with your tax return. I had to wait for the tag to be mailed, but otherwise, not a big deal. There is a form to fill out, which I downloaded, but the tag price was looking one up if I didn't have it.

Yes, as I understand, it is a tax credit. I just read that CA is doing away with their ZEV tax credit, and I'm scared that GA may do the same in the future. That's why I hope my Leaf will come in before the end of the year. I'm going to have a larger than usual tax bill for 2011 so I be sure to take the full tax credit.

My question is: Will the GA state tax credit need to be returned/prorated if I decide to sell my Leaf (I'm still not sure if I'll be able to handle my neighbors harrassing me about not having a good 'ol american truck) after a year or so?

I am planning a trip to Roswell Nissan tomorrow if I have time.

Are you sure you'll be eligible for the GA state rebate even though you bought the Leaf out of state? If so, I'd love to get my hands on a 2011 orphan. I just didnt' want to take the chance of not getting the $5000 GA.

The form says must be registered in GA. The dealer forwarded my taxes to GA and that is where it is registered.

nogajim: nice job with the tax credit. I'm going to order next week, but I'll be on the lookout for a 2011 orphan. Did you have to explain the GA tax credit to the out of state dealer, or did they take care of everything for you?

I just met with the GM at Regal Nissan in Roswell. He wasn't budging on the MSRP, but did guarantee that he was not adding anything on. I'm not sure if these guys realize that there are more dealers in the area, or if they have an agreement with each other not to move from MSRP (which I doubt, in this business!). The GM tried to pawn me off to one of their Leaf "specialists". I already spoke to one of those guys on the phone, who wasn't even sure of the GA tax credit. I told him no thanks and left. I guess I'll start calling the other local dealers.

See my post above. I talked with the folks at Carriage in Gainesville on Wednesday. They seemed genuinely interested in the subject even if they didn't have all the answers. I didn't talk price because it will be a while before I can think about doing that as we are in the middle of relocating to Cumming.
