How to Promote the West Coast Electric Highway

I just sent a message to the Tejon Outlets on their contact form asking for a DC fast charger. Also have information that the California Energy Commission may be putting a few fast chargers in later this year, but not sure. If you are reading this and want to travel regionally with your EV...

    Future-Proofing

If you have the capacity (and it sounds like you do), you might consider installing the Clipper Creek HCS-60, which is reasonably priced, (J1772) and puts out 48 amps, requiring a 60 amp circuit. I agree with others about J1772 being the way to go as it's become the standard. But it is also...

    DC Fast Charger Accuracy Question

FWIW, we have a 2013 Leaf and I have not experienced a difference between what the car's SOC meter says and what the QC says. I've used both the Nissan/Sumimoto brand QC and Blink. Both have been accurate to within 1%.

    ANY GPS would do

On my Garmin GPS, there are two options for routing: fastest route, or shortest distance. Choosing the latter has helped me in similar situations. It's not perfect as it doesn't take into account all factors (e.g. terrain, etc), and sometimes the shortest route is also the fastest road, but it...

    Range Chart

Based on my experience, this should be doable under all but the most adverse conditions, mostly really cold temps. You'll use little charge getting to work given the downhill and tailwind. I live in the southern San Joaquin Valley and have driven the Grapevine both ways numerous times, and it...

    clipper creek evse

evseadapters.com used to sell such an adapter, but I just looked at their website and it looks like they're redoing it and not all products are listed. I bought a Clipper Creek LCS-25 EVSE before they offered the plug-in versions and just put an L 6-20 plug on the end of it and bought an...

do they make any portable 30 amp EVSEs?

Clipper Creek just came out with a 30 amp plug-in EVSE for around $600.

How much did your EVSE install cost?

Our costs came to about $400, and this included adding a couple of unrelated outlets in our attic (backup power for solar attic fans). We used an electrician we had used before so knew they were good. The EVSE was a Schneider EV Link that cost about $800 (great unit, by the way). They did a nice...

What does a 208/480v 3ph power plug look like?

There is a close-up picture of one of the480-volt outlet at the Flying J in Frazier Park posted to the Plugshare entry for that location. I know because I took it and posted it when charging my Leaf there using one of the 14-30 outlets. That should give you an idea of what might work on it.

    Clipper Creek LCS-25P

I don't see any issues with this. We're leasing a 2013 Leaf S and I did pretty much this same thing. Bought the Clipper Creek LCS 25 before they came out with the plug-in version and just added my own L6-20 plug to the end of it, then bought a couple of the adapter cables from evseadapters.com...

Want more Charging? Let Shorepower know! Take their survey.

Shorepower (http://www.shorepowerconnect.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) are interested in putting in EVSEs at their locations but need to demonstrate interest/RIO, so has developed the survey at the below link for EV drivers. Want more charging infrastructure? Here's a real...

I Beat EPA's 73 Mile Range : Report your experience

Went 75 miles yesterday on 66% of battery charge, from Frazier Park to Pasadena, CA. Yes, there is considerable downhill on that run. This was one leg of a trip from the southern San Joaquin Valley over the Grapevine and back in one day. Uphills were another matter. Still, our 2013 Leaf did...

Only charging to 79% and 99%

We have a 2013 S and it does the same thing. It hasn't affected range as far as we can tell. I think it has something to do with the cells balancing and/or the fact that the Leaf's calculations of battery soc is not perfect. I don't think turning the timer off will change anything. One odd...

    Braking?

Our 2013 S is now in the shop for the third time for brake fluid leakage. First time they just topped off the reservoir; second time they diagnosed an internal leak in the brake booster control unit (I think that's what it called) (wrote about this earlier in the thread) and took 10 days or so...

Pretty specific request: do you think I can make this trip?

Does the Leaf Energy app takes into account total elevation gain and loss for a trip, or does it just look at starting and ending elevation and use the difference between the two? If it does the latter, its estimates are going to be overly optimistic for roads that have lots of ups and downs...
