Why not a fossil fuel heater for the Leaf or BEV's?

I am not talking about the heater in a 1954 Apache! I am talking about a modern, highly efficient heater that could greatly increase the cold weather range of a BEV like a Leaf in cold, winter seasons.

Why not a fossil fuel heater for the Leaf or BEV's?

OK, so we know that BEV range gets hammered during cold days, particularly in climates that experience cold winters. We know that there are heaters that consume fossil fuels, but do so in a highly efficient manner- more efficiently than an internal combustion engine. Why not put a fossil fuel...

Is 83 miles with big elevation changes possible?

What software were you using to generate that nice looking map with the elevation change profile?

Thanks for looking into that. As an aside, I went to visit Todd today at the Elgin, IL Nissan dealership to test drive the Leaf. Nice guy, nice car. It seemed like a pretty nice dealership to do business with. He says they will be selling the cars for sticker.

Did he let you take it out by yourself or did he come along for the ride? Any sales pressure?

I got the following response concerning the Volt: The amount of the rebate for the Chevy Volt is 10% of the base retail price of the vehicle as reflected on the MSRP, not including add-on equipment options, up to $4000.   Mary Cruse Clean Air Programs IEPA [email protected] Redleaf -...

Thanks for that link! Before I dig myself, do you know off hand if cars like the Volt qualify for this rebate?

Ditto on the phone call. I wasn't home so they left a message. I am probably not going to go through with the purchase after having read many threads on this forum. I am concerned about our winters in the Midwest. The range hit concerns me. Also, the fact that my Leaf would sometimes be...

Handout : Nissan Leaf - the unofficial FAQ

I'm primarily interested in buying an electric car to help rid our (i.e. the Western world's) dependence on foreign oi from unfriendly nations. I would put some general statistics on there about how much oil we import from OPEC, how much less oil we need if we stopped using cars powered by...

Question for the home solar power experts...my sample house

I'm not putting solar on my house.....or at least not in the up and coming years. I'm just talking theoretical so I can understand how to build and design one. I was just trying to build a theoretical system using parts I'm finding on the internet so I can LEARN about solar. That's it...

Question for the home solar power experts...my sample house

Cool, I'll check out the site but I was trying to "design" a theoretical system myself to understand what a system would look like.

2012 Nissan Leaf Battery Warmer: More Details

It would be nice to know how much electricity this battery heater would draw per 24 hours of sitting in a Chicago parking lot in the dead of winter, in say a week of 0F weather, unplugged. It would suck if you drove it to the airport with enough charge to get home, vacationed in Mexico to...

Question for the home solar power experts...my sample house

OK, I bought his book and read it last week. It was a really good book. So as I follow along in this book (sort of) step by step...... I looked at my electric bill and I use the most electricity in July where I use 40,800 watt-hours per day on average. I looked around on line, and saw that...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

I test drove the Volt at Grossinger a couple of weeks back. They were incredibly nice to me (and I am not a fan of dealerships in general). They made it pretty clear that they couldn't sell it to me, let me drive it around by myself with my wife, with zero sales pressure. I hope they are not...

Federal tax credit question: selling used

What I should have stated more clearly is that if you sold the car for $34,923 to a buyer, you would have a capital gain because your basis* in the car would be $27,423. You would then essentially be paying tax on your tax credit. If you sold the car for more than $34,923, you would be paying...

Federal tax credit question: selling used

You would owe tax on the capital gain if you sold the Leaf for a profit. Your basis in the car would be reduced by the tax credit, so essentially you could be paying tax on it plus any additional profit.

Cold Weather Nissan Leaf info! ($930 MSRP, can order now)

I have a Prius just like you. During the winter, it sits in a parking lot for up to 7 days in sometimes subzero Fahrenheit temperatures and it's fine. I start it up after a 7 day cold soak and it goes. I would hope that a Leaf would be able to do the same without having to run its battery...
