At what Electric Rate would owning an EV not make sense?

I understand there are other benefits to owning an EV. Here in Hawaii, municipal parking lots allow free parking if you have an EV (although that will probably end when the law expires in 2016). I'm asking from a financial stand point since I feel that numbers are objective. When you start...

At what Electric Rate would owning an EV not make sense?

Thanks! Your comment is insightful, helpful and adds to the discussion. Clearly from my posts my main goal is to only save money. I think I'll even forgo your recommendations and just walk everywhere. Save money and get exercise! Of course there are many ways to look at the benefits of usage of...

At what Electric Rate would owning an EV not make sense?

Adding more PV is not an option right now. I'm still paying off the first system. 35 cents is the average rate a resident pays. The rates vary depending on time of day. TOU rates are available but I've yet to calculate to see if it will actually cost me more. TOU rates allow 6cents less than...

At what Electric Rate would owning an EV not make sense?

Yeah, the PV business here is booming considering both Federal and State tax incentives. There are many California companies that have come here specifically to do PV installations. I do have a bunch of panels on my house but have not zeroed out my bill yet so the additional EV usage would add...

At what Electric Rate would owning an EV not make sense?

I'm wondering how much would electricity have to cost before it outweighs owning an ICE or even a highly efficient hybrid. On these forums, I read people paying electric rates of around 7 cents/kwh up to around 13 cents/kwh. Here on Oahu, our effect residential electric rate last month was 35...

2013 S Not Charging at Some Stations

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this thread. Since I was experiencing problems with only the Volta stations around here (using Eaton EVSE), I contacted a friend who is an executive for the company. He informed me that their newer stations were having firmware issues with newer EVs. They...

2013 S Not Charging at Some Stations

I think it does. One of the station has some indicator lights. When I plugged in my car the "Fault" light went off on the station. That tells me that something is wrong. On another note, someone recommended that I contact Nissan directly. How would I do this? Just through their website?

2013 S Not Charging at Some Stations

I didn't get an error message on the car but I did get the charger recognition. The dash lights up that green icon to show that something is plugged in. I did try removing and replugging it in multiple times. What are you recommending I kick/cuss out? The evse or the car?

2013 S Not Charging at Some Stations

Sorry, yes I am in Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. And sorry about the unplugging too. I really didn't think there would be a problem if I just unplugged it temporarily, but you're right. I didn't think about the charge timers. When I plugged the evse back in, the leaf did start charging...

2013 S Not Charging at Some Stations

Wanted to see if anyone else out there with a 2013 S is experiencing a similar problem. I've gone to about 5 charging stations around town and my S charged ok on 3 of them but did not charge at all on 2. The stations were all made by a local company named Volta and uses the same Eaton charger on...

Cargo Organizer in a 2013 Model

I'm asking my dealer about the Cargo Organizer and they're telling me that there isn't one for the 2013s. Are the 2011-12 the same?

Cargo Organizer in a 2013 Model

Does anyone have a 2013 leaf with the cargo organizer? Trying to figure out if it is worth getting. I understand that the organizer was good for 2011-12 because there was a hump in the trunk and the organizer would create a flat cargo area when the back seats are folded down. However, with the...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Thanks cgaydos! I wouldn't have gotten this deal if you didn't recommend I email the dealers again. Even though I didn't get a different salesperson, I reconnected with them and when I told them I was going to close on a deal that day they started trying everything to sell me a car. Thanks to...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Just picked up my 2013 S with no add-ons. I guess there was some room for negotiation at the dealership. I told the dealer I was at that I made an appointment with the other dealer and I wouldn't cancel with them (which was true). So they just kept dropping the price trying to get me to close. I...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

When I decide to purchase a new car then I would consider shipping from the mainland. However, I'm looking at a lease so this probably wouldn't work or the costs would exceed the savings. Not to mention I'd lose about 2 months of car usage to account for shipping time to and from.

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Nope, no dice. Actually tried again and I just got the same people calling me back from 2 dealerships. Maybe out dealerships here just aren't as big as the ones over there. There are a lot of car makers here with only one dealership (Toyota, BMW, Lexus, Audi, etc) so when there's more then one...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

I'm new and have also been looking to lease a 2013 S. I'm also in Hawaii but located on Oahu. That lease deal may seem crappy compared to deals that other people are getting on the forum but I'm not sure how much better it can get here on the islands. Not only is there a higher cost of living...
