Look what I spied off the article below:

"Among less expensive solutions, Nissan engineered the 2013 Leaf with a new range-extending drive mode the company says can increase the distance it can travel on a single charge by up to 15%, to 84 miles, by allowing the customer to choose to use up 100% of the energy stored in the battery."

Is this for real?

It's the same old charge to 80% vs 100% choice we always had. In the 2013 cars, they've broken the feature out separately from the charge timers is all.

I love how car companies can rename something that has always been there and make it sound new and impressive! Oh, and you can not now, nor could you ever, use 100% of the energy stored in the pack...

Yes, it's a marketing gimmick, but do note that the 2013's come with an 80%/100% option which is separate from the charge timers, and it has indeed been set to 80% at the factory. Not only that, but I believe it also applies to Quick Charges (which the previous option did not).

That WSJ will bite on anything. I still remember the "25% battery increase" story they ran Sept 14, 2012.
