Saudi Prince - Keep oil prices low so Americans don't move to alternatives...

Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal said Sunday that he wants oil prices to drop so that the United States and Europe don't accelerate efforts to wean themselves off his country's supply.

In an interview broadcast Sunday on "CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS," the grandson of the founding king of modern Saudi Arabia said the oil price should be somewhere between $70 and $80 a barrel, rather than the current level of over $100 a barrel.

"We don't want the West to go and find alternatives, because, clearly, the higher the price of oil goes, the more they have incentives to go and find alternatives," said Talal, who is listed by Forbes as the 26th richest man in the world.

I was just in Turkey and it is $9 a gallon there...

Just wait till you start paying $10.32 a gallon like here in the Uk, then you will REALLY start to moan lol ;-)

I used to live in Alaska and rural gas prices there have always been MUCH higher than the USA average.

This news report tells you that the highest price for gas in rural Alaska is $9.00 per gallon. You read that right. Alaska produced 20% of domestic oil, but gas can cost more than twice the national average.

The reason for the high price is transportation costs. There is really only 4 highways in the state and most of the small communities can not be driven to. Heck, the article says that a gallon of Milk can cost $18.00

These high prices have not inspired any alternative fuel movement and I use it as an example that high prices alone will not change behavior.
