Could this be the breakthrough needed to make EV mainstream transportation of choice?

Sounds very promising.

Power Japan Plus executives have years of experience overseeing battery manufacturing and supply chain at industry powerhouses like Sumitomo Metal Mining.

The company owns a battery production facility in Okinawa, Japan, where it will begin bench production testing of 18650 Ryden cells later this year. This facility will allow Power Japan Plus to meet demand for specialty energy storage markets such as medical devices and satellites.

For larger demand industries such as electric vehicles, Power Japan Plus will operate under a licensing business model, providing technology and expertise to existing battery manufacturers to produce the dual carbon battery.

Oddly, the only place you hear anything about this is on the companies website or news sites announcing their news release. I can't find scholarly papers or other reliable confirmation that this technology is reliable and realistic.

looks like they have pretty solid team http://powerjapanplus.com/about/team.html over there including the guy who developed technology used in tesla and prius batteries. they are partnering Kyushu University http://www.kyushu-u.ac.jp look there for research papers your are after.

the fact that they are going to start test production speaks that this technology is real and ready to go prime time(for medical devices and satellite use), now how well can it be adopted for automotive use is something yet to be determined/tested. my guess is tesla might be the first company to license their technology...
