And one more picture, this one taken by Steve L in the second car. We were at a red light so he climbed out,
got himself some elevation and shot this picture. That's my LEAF in the foreground.

It has been fun watching your journey in real time with Spot....

Thank you Tony and Kendall for making the long journey, and letting us ride along from our sofa. Your skill in planning and perseverance demonstrate that, given the time and patience, one can go international border to border. Now the interesting part will be how your surrogate drivers will do on the return trip. I am sure they (and us) learned a great deal from your experience so the drive back won't be as eventful.

Thanks again for taking us along on the adventure,

Kim

Awesome job, Tony and Kendall! All of us are so happy that you made it, and more so that you did it safely and with no incidents. Let's hope that one of the intended goals of the trip, i.e., raising awareness of the West Coast Electric Highway (and lack thereof in California) gets realized.

Have fun at the wedding!

Here are a couple more pictures from Tony's swing through the San Francisco Bay Area:

Funny, those look exactly like the buttons used on the ABB QCs we have a few of here in Norway :)
I would definitely expect ABB knows how to make reliable electrical equipment. They are known world-over for it! Problem is most QC's are made by smaller companies that haven't done a lot of reliability engineering (as is apparent).

US Seattle folks probably added an hour or two to that drive chatting with Tony. But it was great talking with him about EVs, and now I can proudly wear a bright yellow shirt to brighten up these grey seattle days.

Hey Washington & Oregon folks:
Who runs the West Coast Electric Highway Fast Charge stations? Are they private businesses? Public/private partnerships? I assume they are free now. But what are the plans for the future, long-term maintenance?

We have a video to produce, with hours and hours to cull through.

I ask that anybody who has some of the great shots like Howard posted, to send me the original, uncompressed file for possible inclusion.

Several of us in the Seattle area had a great time meeting Tony and daughter Kendall as they passed though on their way to the CA border. We met up with him 18 miles south of DT and 4 Leafs followed Tony to the BLINK DCFC. One of our FB members set up a free bridge line so we all communicate utilizing our cell phones and BlueTooth capability of the Leaf as we drove up I-5.

As anxious as Tony was to meet his goal last night, he spent several hours with us sharing his adventure. In fact, as he was about to leave, a steady stream of Leafs and a Mitsubishi MiEV drove in hoping that he was still there and could say hello. This probably lasted for at least an hour and a half but Tony wanted to make sure he met everyone who took the time to come down. Thanks Tony!!

Here are a few pics I took during his visit:

Tony cranks up the BLINK which is not officially open but usable in test mode.

Our local Ecotality rep was on hand to make sure things went smoothly.

Tony receives some cool stuff from Jeff Finn of the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association—including a hat, and ribbon sections from the official opening ceremonies of the Washington State portion of the West Coast Electric Highway for the I-5 and US2 sections.

He showed us the many apparatuses he brought with him "just in case"

I told Tony he'd better dump some of these as he crosses the border.
