California Rebate Question - Trading Leaf for 500e

Got the rebates (Feds and California) when I got the Leaf about 2 yrs ago. What happens if I sell the Leaf and get a 500e? Give the rebate back and get another one? Pro-rated?

Technically, the first one on the Leaf is prorated over three years and you give back the difference, and you get the full rebate amount for the 500e.

TomT's response is correct for the California rebate. But the $7,500 federal credit you got was not a rebate, and you don't have to pay any of that back. This is true whether you purchased, so got the credit at income tax time, or whether you leased, so got the credit as if it were part of your down payment.
