Couple in a VW Passat TDI sets new range record

John and Helen Taylor – also known as “the world’s most fuel efficient couple” have set a new world record for the longest distance traveled on a single tank of fuel. The new record to beat is 1,626.1 miles. They beat the previous record of 1,526.6 miles by 99.5 miles. The previous record was set in Europe in a VW Passat 1.6 BlueMotion diesel.

The 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE TDI has a 43 mpg EPA rating on the window sticker; during the Taylor’s trip the couple averaged close to 84.1 mpg.
