While AFCIs are marketed as preventing some arc faults, actual evidence of their effectiveness is limited. If you still have the faulty power supplies, you could try recreating the arc fault to see if they actually trip the AFCI receptacle. It was pretty scary and I felt fortunate that I was there to unplug them before they started a fire. This prompted me to install an AFCI outlet on this branch circuit to prevent a fire in case this happens again.
