This is really depressing news. Envia systems, the company most often touted as having a production-ready battery breakthrough, was essentially a fraud. Their battery used technology from other companies, some which was apparently stolen, and they were unable to reproduce the performance figures they originally announced with great fanfare. As a result, they lost their deal with GM. Read about it here.

Another one to add to the pile of miracle batteries that didn't pan out.

It does go to show that there's increasing recognition of how utterly transformative a big battery breakthrough will be.

I'm pinning my hopes on JCESR.

That's too bad. I was under the impression the Envia battery tech was already being used in prototype cars and being tested for production.. I guess it was nowhere close. Yep, throw this into the bin of vaporware batteries. I guess now we have to depend on traditional suppliers like Samsung, Panasonic, and LG Chem.

Lithium-air is the way to go, but progress on getting to a usable architecture has been painfully slow.

I suggest updating the title. What we have is a cancelled GM deal and a bunch of lawsuits.

Depressing for sure, though.

Where does this leave GM's claim of "200 mile" EV ?

+1. Well put.

Hoping the transformation comes soon.
