Saw my first Tesla in the wild yesterday in Sarasota. A nice black one.
As I pointed it out to my friend the Tesla driver pointed back at me, obviously noticing our Leaf :D

Have seen a gray and red one here in Coral Gables.

Saw my first LEAF in the wild yesterday. Downtown Ocala.

I just got mine a few weeks ago. I have had interest, but it seems that people I was talking with had no idea. I thought I was the only one who knew about a LEAF. And - then driving home - I see another at the red light at Sunrise and Nob Hill. Amazed that I saw 2 LEAFS at an intersection. And, happy I found this forum.

10,000 miles on pure electricity!

I was so motivated by N1ghtrider (a.k.a Roy Wasson) tales of adventure in the 100+ club during the FPL EV Pilot Focus Group Session that I decided once again to drive 100 miles on a single charge. Here is a pic of my first entry into the 100 miles club back when I just got the car.

I still have 12 capacity bars but my Li-Ions are now over 13 months old! My current driving routine averages 76 miles a charge so I was confident I could do it again if I slowed down a bit.

I started with a full charge on Monday ready to see how many times I could make my 20+ mile commute. Since I knew I would be driving at or under the speed limit I selected the slowest possible route (25% highway and 75% surface roads in urban traffic).

The bars started disappearing much more quickly than I expected but the last two bars kept me going for a while. I still had one bar and 8 miles remaining when I hit 100 miles. Perhaps I was driving a bit too slow! I was at 104.5 miles when I finally lost my last bar. The GOM instantly went from 5 miles remaining to "---". I averaged 6.6 m/kWh for the entire trip and actually drove the first 52 miles in D mode.

I drove 105.1 miles and made 4 round trips to work. I am now certain I could have gone all week if I started in Eco mode.

Shall I make this a trilogy with a daring Turtle-Mode run?
For now I am back to my regular fast commute route (66% highway and 34% surface roads) but I am still taking it slow and driving in Eco mode. I much prefer D mode and only use Eco mode when I am short of my destination. I will continue driving in Eco mode long enough to figure out how much extra range I get. This also might give me the courage to actually hit Turtle mode. I have had plenty of opportunities to go into turtle mode I have always chickened out.

ICE less in Florida. We just sold our 2002 RAV4 and I now no longer own any internal combustion engines!
We plan to rent an ICE when we take road trips unless they actually install some Level 3 charge stations in Florida.

I saw a white LEAF driving near Lincoln Road while I was going into work this morning. This is the first time I have seen another LEAF on South Beach. Actually this is the first time I recalll seeing another LEAF on my commute to work.

Any place to recharge in Key Largo? I am going there for the weekend and the place I am staying (Amoray Resort) wants to charge me $5 per hour for Level 1 charging.
There is a free charger in Florida City at 103 E Lucy Street. Call ahead (786) 303-6036 to schedule

The Key Largo Bay Marriott Beach Resort (MM 103.8) has a free charger (305) 453-0000.

The Baptist Health Mariners Hospital (MM91.5) also has a charger (probably not free) (305) 434-1033.

Another 100 miles south in Key West there is a free charger at the Niles Nissan Dealer.

Hi everyone! Haven't posted in a while...last time I got some crazy errors and gave up.

They finally installed 2 L2 chargers at my office. I find it interesting that out of 1,700 employees, I am the only one with an electric car here so far. I know someone who has a Tesla on order, but my Leaf is a loner out there right now. It's nice having my own personal parking space! Charging is free for the first 6 months and then they are going to review the usage and decide how much the cost will be. Since I don't use it very often, I am guessing it won't be too much. I asked why they decided to not to make it free all the time. They said they felt that in the future everyone would be moving towards electric cars and although I am the only one now, they don't want to set a precedent so that one day they are paying for 100s of people to charge their cars. Makes perfect sense right? NOT.

One other fun thing...when I was walking in this morning, we have a new security company here. One of their vehicles is a LEAF. Hoping I don't see that security car in *my* space when I need to charge!

Nice, live here in Miami too and have proposed that that the company that I work for put in a level 2 charger also. Any tips on convincing that management that this is a good idea? Except for a couple of Tea Party Republicans that think EV are a socialist plot by President Obama  I've had pretty good receptions so far.

Also are your companies charger open to the public?

No tips to offer - I think I was just lucky. Our company got a "green grant" that paid for a new parking lot if they installed the chargers.

Unfortunately they are not available to the public. The only one down this way that I know of that is available to the public (other than the ones at the dealers) is the free one at Baptist Hospital on Kendall Drive. I've used it once and the other time I would have used it there was a white LEAF in the space!

Update:

I talked the desk manager into checking online to find out the electricity cost for me to plug into a 110 outlet, so we made a deal for me to pay $6 per day for charging rather than $5 per hour. I have an outlet on the hotel's outer wall 20 feet from my room.

Spike: I called the Mariott and the desk clerk was not aware of the charger. They have no valet parking so I could not ask anyone who parks cars there. Do you know the location on the property of the charger? The resort is 14 acres large. That charger is not showing up on my Carwings. Thanks.

I heard about it on Recargo.com. Not surprised the desk clerk was unaware. Try talking to the General Manager or Maintenance Department. Their website does not mention it at all so WTF! The only way to verify if there is a L1 or L2 charger is to go there in person and take a picture for everyone to see.

My suggestion is to find a 120V outlet in the parking lot or hotel room and use an extension cord. The car draws a constant 1400 Watts so use a heavy duty cable. I carry a 12AWG weatherproof 100' and a 25' extension cord in my trunk just for such an occasion.

Wanted to let you know about some movement on this over at DW, in case anyone wanted to "pile on" :)
