I believe that longer range vehicles are just around the corner:

If this happens in the new future, it would be reasonable to see if we can get some of the larger motel chains to start getting involved in EVs and plan for future charging stations at their motels. If a major chain would install charging stations that could charge somewhere around 100 kWh overnight for a fee, then the next generation of EVs would be able to go coast to coast rather easily. I for one would not mind limiting my travels to somewhere around 350 to 400 miles in a day. Being on a vacation, I would find some sites along the way that would make a full day of travel and then stay and recharge overnight. The only thing I am missing is addresses to be able to get this message to the top brass to encourage them to keep an eye on EV progress.
