Have had my Leaf over 5 years now. When i turn on the heater, the mileage remaining as displayed on the dash, usually goes down by about ~10%. Had been that for essentially years of ownership. For instance, if dash displayed 150 miles remaining, turning on the heater decreased it to approx 135 miles.

I took the Leaf in for recall service. Since then, the effect of turning on the heater is decreasing the displayed miles remaining by over 20% (more than double what the effect of turning on the heater was earlier). Now, for instance, when it recently displayed 130 miles remaining, when i turn on the heater, it dropped to 101 miles remaining, for example.

I have therefore 2 questions. (1) what is the typical decrease in miles remaining you observe if you toggle the heater on? (2) Has anybody else had a similar experience after this recall service? The recall service is:
NHTSA ID: 23V-494
NISSAN ID: R23A6
This is the description of the recall service:
ON VEHICLES WITH AFFECTED VCM SOFTWARE, THERE IS A RISK OF SUSTAINED MOTOR TORQUE IF A DRIVER TAKES BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS WITHIN 8 SECONDS AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL, ICC, OR PPA FUNCTION IS DEACTIVATED ...

Thank you for any light you can shed on this!

Frankly, you should ignore the guess-o-meter (silly number with miles or km) afterward. See https://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=271853#p271853..

Someone else made an observation about the GOM at https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=635429#p635429.

It's a black box that puts up some number based upon % state of charge and your recent driving history + other inputs (e.g. HVAC status, eco on/off, etc.) Who cares? Pay attention instead to your % state of charge and miles per kWh display (which can/should reset when you wish to start clean/throw away previous history).

You can look at https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/NISSAN/LEAF/5%252520HB/FWD#recalls under associated documents for 23V494000 for publicly released docs on the recall. Examples that look interesting include these:

A few days ago I took my 2021 Leaf SV into the dealer for the software update (recall notice). Driving off from the dealer I noticed the GOM mileage was higher than when I dropped it off, but the battery percent had not changed. Now, back home, and I see that fully charged the GOM is now reading about 175 miles. Before the dealer update it was usually around 155 miles. This effect on the GOM was not mentioned in the recall notice. Maybe the software update did more that Nissan didn't publicize. Maybe its now allowing the vehicle to more fully use the full capacity of the battery, or maybe the algorithm for the GOM was changed. PS, had a 2014 Leaf, now have a 2021. Very satisfied with it. I see I need to update my profile on this site to reflect the newer car. UPDATE: after another full charge, the GOM is back to 155 miles or so.

You led me to look, after that Recall service today. I do see a similar change on my 2020 SV Plus: about 13% drop in "range" when turn heater on, vs. about 7% before. No, have not looked for other changes yet.
(I think the "range" dropped by more when I was in cold Idaho winters; now in warmer California.)
